InEPTT is a skirmish game that runs from 1890 thru to 2020. It pits small elite teams of "Agents" against the evils and aliens of this world. The monsters are normally referred to as creatures and the Aliens as "XRAYs". XRAYS run from your normal Gray types to the Elite Hunter Alien that is fully capable of destroying multiple INEPTT teams by itself, if INEPTT is badly led. Creatures run a gamut of Vampires, Mummies, Evil Henchmen, Giant Apes, Snakes and Ants to name a few.

INEPTT is built with three basic Genres of play 1890 to 1930, 1930 to 1960 and 1960 to 2020. These genres have various weapons armouries with which you can build your teams to take on the Creatures and XRAY's that you will face.

The game uses the term Mission for a single scenario and Operation for a series of linked Missions. You can build your team as you go as you collect credits with successful mission completion and "kills" of Creatures and XRAYs.

The game is normally run by a Game Master (GM) but the GM is really an integral part of the process much like a Dungeon Master in a game of dungeons and dragons.

The GM designs and runs the missions and or operations and the scope is massive! There are two "Missions" in the core rules but those missions lend themselves to quick development into literally hundreds of missions with minor tweaks to terrain, victory conditions and forces involved.

The game allows you to play anything from Search and Destroy type missions where you are doing a sweep of a small town or city block(s) to attacking an XRAY base or Ship, fighting off a Zombie horde and the list goes on.

Some of the key points for InEPTT from a mini/terrain view point is – there are no specific miniatures that you "must" buy. You can use just about anything you want really, the one stipulation being that Allies and Henchmen should be a What You See is What You Get concept, but for your Agents (term for InEPTT Soldiers) you can use any figure you like. Also the teams range from 3 to 12 so you don't need hordes of figures although your XRAYs and Creatures will often need to out number Agents by as many as 3 to 1 and for zombies 5 to 1 or more – but that is up to the GM. Also the games usually run from 30 minutes (small 4 x 4 table) to 4 hours for massive 10 x 6 table with 5 teams and over 40 bad guys, with all teams having separate Mission Orders to complicate the system even more.

This has been about a three year adventure, although when I started we didn't play INEPTT more than once every 1 or 2 months. Now the lads clamour for more INEPTT. The game has huge amounts of growth still and there is depth in every category from which to develop more and more. I have plans for 3 supplements in the immediate future. My first will delve into Genre 1 (1890 to 1930) focusing on German Occult Jaegers hunting down artifacts to help the Kaiser and at the same time the British Empire, combined with the French into the Special Occult Operations Force (SOOF) will try and thwart the German attempts. But they will run into a number of trials along the way (obviously).

The rules are available in both PDF and Print at 12.99 and 23.99 respectively.

I also have a group started on Yahoo to help provide support and will be on Lead Adventures as well.

Hope you take the plunge and give INEPTT a go – its well worth the effort!

Can you shed light on the vehicle mechanics?

Vimy Ridge16 Feb 2014 12:57 a.m. PST

In what regard cloudcaptain? Vehicles move within four bands of speed – slow, med fast, fast and very fast. Vehicles have both an armour value and a survivability – so you have to penetrate the armour and then cause enough damage to destroy the vehicle as well. This includes saucers for the Aliens. Not sure if that answers the question?

Vimy Ridge16 Feb 2014 9:34 a.m. PST

Sorry made a slight error – forgot the fifth band of speed which is "Normal". INEPTT is a You GO I GO system, with a spot for reactive fire or ambush etc. However the movement does not have to be done linearly (so to speak) you can choose to move and shoot, move shoot move, shoot and move etc. Vehicles are no different, you can choose to shoot from a vehicle (with passengers where it makes sense) and with the various armaments the vehicle has. For flying craft/helicopters/saucers to name a few, as well as creatures like vampires, giant wasps or pterodactyls there is a height band added. Hope that helps to provide further detail?

Thanks! Wanted to know the level of detail involved. That summed it up nicely.

Vimy Ridge16 Feb 2014 10:13 p.m. PST

I didn't go too deeply into the detail – if you have ever played XCOM (the old computer game) I used that as something of a basis from which to start. So the game has enough depth to make it interesting but not bog down the game. We just spent an hour playing a game with three teams (in two vehicles) over a 10 x 4 foot table. It took an hour because my 18 month old grandson likes to get involved :D

In any case, one vehicle was destroyed by small arms fire and so exploded but only caused one of the passengers to be killed. The six guys I game with (in our small group) have used their own backgrounds in games like Seven coffins for seven brothers, 40k, dirtside and a bunch of others to help me get the right feel.

So there is depth but not at the sake of playability. The game is a blast to play. I am usually the GM and it is as much fun being GM as it is to use a team.

We will be running through the missions for my supplement book based on 1890 to 1930. The Operation will consist of 8 linked missions and takes place in 1910. I have a few old trucks from CompanyB. Really looking forward to it!
