Not 10mm … Nick is a true 28mm nutcase.

Nick is a true 28mm nutcase.

Then bless his heart for inspiration…

That Foundry line was rather small, about 26mm+(?). Does that make this figure a large 28mm, pushing 30mm?

Another 28mm and 30mm case myself! old fart

Cheers,

Dear all,

I prefer the scale which is compatible with existing stuff…. In case of FPW. Foundry and Northstar, ie. 26mm. These to are the best what it is out there and were are the prussian pioneers, landwehr, the signal corps, high command and the horse artillery? We do not yet even talk about minor german states were it is impossile to organize a unit of hessian, braunschweigers or Frankfurters.

Lets face it; no supplier will every have a complet range so they must be compatible.
The problem of the FPW is
1. The manufactures dont understand the diversity of troops and the european rigid !) unit organisation. Rigid means not only stiff but realy fixed.
2. The numbers involved in the conflict! This is a peoples war which total recuitment of the populations. Sedan, gravelotte mars-la tours, st. Privat.. You have always armies if 120.000 -180.000 french or up to 200.000. Prussian. In a sacle of 1:100 are these 1200-2000 figures on a rather small 6-10 meter table. ( I think that 400 figures per side is optimal and coversthe early small battles, for major battles are 600-800 figures pre side needed if you only one flank of the battlesfield is played). remeber that you have at gettysburg on 80.000 per side and that the average FPW is 2,5 times bigger than gettysburg. These are only the figures of the combatans meaning if you play a campaign game were serval armies can enter a battle you need this with a factor of 2-3, giving you a final collection of roundabout 3000 figures per side. Lets say you want play 1866 also you have to add this number again for the austrians and a some hundert for the Reichsheer.
3. The prussian uniform regulation are the most stict of all armies. Missing bottons would be punished with prison etc… And most foundry figures miss all "aufschlaege" or have combinations of "aufschlaege" and "kragen" which are fantasy.
4.The skirmishes of the type of the ACW or w2 are not documented with the imperial armies the most figures are made for today. If you want to play skirmishes in FPW you have to take the late period of the Franco-German war of 1871 and play with franc tireurs and mostly the bavarian army.

This is to be considered if you start collecting or producing FPW.
As i am in the final stages of my collection ( considerimg what is avaiable :) ) would i strongly adviese that new figures are compatible to existing manufactures.

Greetings and have FUN

By the same token… Untill now has no one made a historical correct ( i.e. mounted group/ not camping) prussian high commnad, not one moltke or a bismark figure. How is this possible?

Cheriton, website is heroesofthedarkage.com, though it needs updating – if you send me your address (California is not a problem), I will send you some samples.
Rudi, thanks for the pictures, as I start on the other German States, I am more than willing to work with you to get it right:), in fact, once I start new regiments, if people help out with information, ideas etc, I am more than happy to send a few figures out as a thank you.
Know my figures are not in size comparison with Foundry, slightly larger, but I like 'chunky' figures – maybe not such good marketing I know:)
As to the range, I am just going to plod along over the next few years adding figures as I go – ideally, I would like to have as much of a 'complete' range as possible
