Hi guys: The 2014 Jerseyfest Model Kit & Statue Fair will be held from August 1st to the 3rd in 2014 at the Marriott Hanover Hotel in Whippany, New Jersey. We sold out of vendor tables at our last show with over 115, and are expecting a significant increase in vendors and attendees at the 2014 show. The success and growth spurt from our last show has allowed us to upgrade to a 4 star rated Marriott hotel in a great location, not far from Newark Airport. See hotel pictures by clicking here: jerseyfestfair.com/?page_id=3125 Once again we are putting on a big show that will appeal to a diverse audience of modelers and collectors who are into figures, vehicles, mecha, props, etc. and various scales from miniatures to life-sized. And of course the show will have a huge amount of hobby supplies and materials of all kinds. Our model contest will once again be spectacular with phenomenal trophies and prizes. In the coming months, we will be announcing our special guest artists and information about presentations occurring during the vendor show on Saturday and Sunday. We also have numerous night time activities like parties and "show and tells". The show will again kick off with "Jerseyfest Academy" all day classes on the Friday before the vendor show (i.e., August 1st). They will be mostly "hands on" classes featuring instruction by elite artists on painting, sculpting and constructing vehicle and figure model kits. See the latest info on the Academy here: jerseyfestfair.com/?page_id=3128 We have a talented team working together to make the 2014 show extra special. Many people from all over the USA and international locations will be attending. The kits and presentations combined with the overall social experience all day and night will make for a great weekend of complete hobby bliss. Much more info to come folks ! Here is a "show report" summary of our last show with pictures: jerseyfestfair.com/?page_id=2949 Hope to see you at the big show ! The Jerseyfest Team jerseyfestfair.com

We are extremely fortunate to have Jordu Schell as one of our special guests at Jerseyfest 2014 in August. He will be doing painting and sculpting demonstrations as well as discussing creature design on Saturday and Sunday during the vendor show. Jordu Schell has been in the film and television industry since 1987. His talent as a designer, sculptor and painter is world renowned, and his credits include: "Avatar", "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian", "300", "Hellboy", "Aliens vs. Predator – Requiem", "Men in Black", "The Mist", "Batman Returns", "Edward Scissorhands", "Alien: Resurrection", "The X-Files Movie", "Predator II", "Galaxy Quest", "Evolution", "Babylon 5-The Series" (on which he designed an emmy award-winning creature make-up and the first fully digital creature for a television series), and many more. He is also one of the very popular artists on the TV show "Making Monsters" (http://www.travelchannel.com/tv-show
stortions-crew). Schell Sculpture Studio (http://schellstudio.com/gallery/) is a full service sculpture and design facility with a wealth of talent to match the need of any project. Their studio specializes in creature and character design, props, prototypes for toys and model kits, general special effects work, and creature design classes. Jordu has also did a series of sculpting and painting videos, including a few for the Stan Winston School of Arts. Doesn't strike me as appealing much to historical gamers or collectors. Is there a reason anyone who collect and or plays 6mm 10mm 15mm 28mm 40mm and or 54mm historical stuff would want to attend this? I'm not trying to be sarcastic I'm looking for ways for you to convience me. How many dealer tables would appeal? |
moonlightdrive21 | 04 Apr 2014 12:04 p.m. PST |
Hi jpipes. Of course the decision is yours to make, but the show has many dealers and demos that appeal to any hobbyist who likes to paint, build or create models, whether it be figures, busts, dioramas, vehicles, etc. The techniques and approaches that hobbyists and artists take with painting a figure is very often applicable to all scales, and there will be lots of demos and classes throughout the weekend. Or even if you like to just look at and appreciate the models – in some ways it's like visiting a model museum that celebrates fiction. We have vendors selling paints, tools, and various supplies all over the place. For example, one of our vendors has about 20 tables of hobby tools and supplies including many hand tools for very fine work and advanced specialty tools that are ideal for modelers and can't be found just anywhere. Nothing like getting to touch and feel tools like these in person to see if they are for you – plus the prices are usually great. There are companies selling various supplies for molding, casting and sculpting and doing free demos on the methods for doing so. I personally love looking at models and art and socializing with people that share the same passions as me, regardless of the subject matter or scale. One of the nice aspects of Jerseyfest is the diversity of models and products at the tables, plus the diversity of modelers who attend. It's all over the map. Plus it's a big show with lots of activities going on during the day and night, so you get your money's worth even if you're taking a long trip to get there. That's why there are loads of people flying in or driving long distances and staying for the weekend. The contest and exhibit room was incredible at our last one, and included many miniatures. One of our many contest prizes last year included cash ($300 in prizes) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the miniature category (15mm to 120mm; figure, bust or vehicle), plus all miniatures also qualified for Gold, Bronze and Silver awards. There will be awards and prizes for that category again this year. We focus on fiction, and as you know there are already many other terrific shows that focus on historical models. If you would like to chat more about it, would really appreciate it if you took the conversation off the forum. Our e-mail address is here: jerseyfestfair.com/?page_id=35 Thanks! |

If I could chime in, I am mostly a gamer, though I do occasionally build models. I had a good time last year. I bought some tools and I thought the weathering sf seminar was applicable to weathering things on the tabletop. Midland Studio was represented selling game size figures as well as others. I go to all kinds of shows to pick up ideas, tools, and materials. I wrote up my experience here: link I plan to go back this year if my schedule works out. |

Phil's roots in stop motion, modeling and practical effects and his ability to use this foundation in conjunction with developing technologies has made him one of a handful of artists whose careers have spanned the transition of visual effects from largely practical to digital. Phil's past work includes the Star Wars Trilogy with "Industrial Light & Magic Studios" (e.g., Imperial Walkers, Tauntauns, Rancor, Jabba the Hut, , etc.), Jurassic Park, the new Jurassic World movie, Dragonslayer, Robocop, Starship Troopers, etc. See more of Phil's biography here: jerseyfestfair.com/?page_id=435 Thanks, Dave jerseyfestfair.com

The partying continues on Saturday night (Aug. 2nd) at Jerseyfest with the "Figure Models Show & Tell Party" and "Sci-Fi Vehicles & Mechs Show & Tell Party" (includes "Hardware Kitbasher's Swap Meet"). Both will be held in separate conference rooms at the Marriott Hanover Hotel from 8:30pm to 11:00pm at no extra cost to vendor show attendees. Hobbyists will bring and talk about pieces they worked on in a laid back, informal setting with snacks and drinks. Then we all work our way over to the incredible "Auld Shebeen" Irish Pub on hotel property. We don't have "cliques" at these parties – all show attendees are invited. And you just might be hanging out with movie FX legends
don't miss it !

You might get a better response here if you had something related to wargaming and wargame related miniatures. You've been pumping this convention here more than just about any other convention on this board yet it seems to have the least to do with what most of us read here for. |
TRUgamer | 29 Jul 2014 6:54 a.m. PST |
If I could make a suggestion. You should consider posting a teaser with a few select images relevant to miniature wargaming along with a link to your website. I would venture that interest here will be limited to painting technique and modeling tools. Perhaps mold making. Scrolling through this image excessive thread can wear out one's scrolling mouse and is almost impossible to view on a portable device. TRU |

That Viper painting class does look cool though – it won't work this year, but I'll put this fest on my bucket list, for more than just gaming reasons. |
