This is one of my favorite figures from Pegaso. I've seen some really beautiful versions of this figure posted around the web and it's been on my wish list for a while. I recently picked up the kit for a decent price and had to start on it right away. I'm focusing on the rider and leaving the horse until later. He's got an expressive face but the kit comes with a nose guard that covers up most of it. So I opted to leave it off and putty over the hole in the helmet.
The scale armor is Reaper's Old Bronze mixed with matte black. I then worked in several layers up to pure Old Bronze. To pick out the highlights I used Vallejo Model Air Gold. It's an odd shade of gold
but works great for highlighting yellow metals. Working on the cloak, the previous pictures are a base coat of Reaper's Weathered Stone and the shadows sketched in with Bone Shadow. When painting white I like to work with off whites, tending a little bit towards the browns. Below I've blended between the weathered stone and bone shadow. I then used Leather White to create my highlights. I don't want this to be too bright so I've avoided using any pure white.

For the banner I wanted something a little more interesting than just the basic cross pattern on a plain white background. So I added a subtle pattern to the white. Again painted just like the cloak, then I went over it with thin diagonal lines using leather white. I'm using a pin vise to hold the banner while I work.
I continued working on the knight, taking care of the chain mail, working on the leather, and doing more of his cloak. I also redid the cross pattern on the banner. I wasn't happy with how that shade of red looked so I went with a more purple version.
Since the banner was a bit of an experiment I only worked on one side. Now that I'm happy with the result I'll tackle the other one. I'm also starting to add a little bit of color to the sash around his waist. It will match the color of the cross on the banner when I'm finished. The figure is still missing the rest of his cape and the shield slung over his shoulder. I'm almost at the point where I can add those on. |

That is truly fantastic. My jaw has dropped to the floor. Please add pics of the horse when you get to him. |

Thank you, everyone. The rider is almost finished. I added the rest of his cape. He's got a shield slung over his shoulder, so that's why there's that dark section. That white can be a tough color to work with. I try to work with off whites so I have more control over the shading and highlighting. As I mentioned earlier I'm using Reaper paints: Bone Shadow for the shadow, Weathered Stone for the mid tones, and Leather White for the highlights. But I'd say that equates to the Vallejo colors of German Cam Beige (821), Deck Tan (986), White Grey (993).
