I am ashamed to admit that the green coat with black facings of Tarleton's British Legion looks pretty darned dashing. |

Agreed. I do like French Dragoon Green with Orange or Light Blue |

Austrian Infantry (or Kleve-Berg Infantry) with light blue facings. French Dragoon green with pink facings. |

In uniform plates, I might agree with you John, but on figures I confess that the colors tend to become one on smaller figures. Now when I painted 15mm Prussian Jaegers with green uniforms with black facings and RED piping, that was something! My favorite would have to be Napoleonic Russian Green coats with red facings-kind of reminds me of Christmas. My Napoleonic Russian Green uniforms are not the 'almost black' that they are 'supposed' to be. Cheers |

There are some colour combinations that go together fairly obviously – red and yellow, blue and white etc. There are some that don't go well – a friend once painted purple and lime green on a figure, showing why nobody should. French Napoleonic uniforms are full of classy combinations – the blue and crimson of the Polish lancers, the white and light blue of he carabiniers. For sheer daring, I'd suggest the yellow coats of the Neufchatel battalion. |

The best looking uniform has to be the USMC dress uniform
..IMO In wargame figures it has to be the French cuirassiers, second to the British 11th light dragoons. |

I would pick the French Guard Chasseurs a Cheval uniform as one of the smartest looking kits of all time. Green/red/buff is a color combination that seems to work very well, then throw in the fur busby and the hussar distinctions and you end up with a great looking uniform. The later French Carabinier uniform circa 1812-1815(white coat, blue facings, cuirasse plate and the classic Greco-Roman helmet)is very striking too. |

I've always been fond of some Polish Artillery Uniforms that are black with crimson distinctions. |

Has to be one of the Hussar Regiments surely! Maybe the French 4th or the Austrian 4th? |

Gee, Kleve-Berg lancers in their pink phase; Regt. Irlandais in French service; Joseph Napoleon regiment
All good but agree with DAF that the Chasseurs a Cheval de la Garde Imperiale are hard to beat for style and dash. |

Modern USMC dress uniform, FTW. The modern Swiss Guards are a close second. Not. |

Well, I wear War of 1812 USMC uniform once in a great while, and I have to say, that's pretty darn sweet. But I think the best "way back" uniform has to be the Canadian Voltiguers in their grey and black with bearskin caps. Officers in dark "bottle" green and black. Just something about that uniform

Get out! It is the British regular uniform of the Zulu Wars, the scarlet jacket over the dark blue trousers with the stripes – and the dyed sun helmets. Case closed. |

The three Reuss companies of the Princes' Battalion. Perry is going to be bringing them out, and I plan to buy them, even though I don't do Napoleonics. Grelber |

I think it depends whether they're painted on minis or worn in real life. For me, one of the handsomest uniforms I've seen was the all-grey hussar uniform (I can't remember which regiment) seen in The Duellists. On a mini it would look really dull though. EDIT: Found a picture.

Royal Baviere, 7YW French, I painted this unit and still think its the snazziest unit I've seen on a game table. |
