I remember years ago a website with instructions and templates for making very stylized ancient galleys in 28mm scale from card. Something like old-style wargaming. Each galley could hold 4-5 miniatures IIRC. I can not find it anymore, can you help me? Thank you very much.

I found this with a quick internet search.

thank you but it was another one…. waterline models, very stylized, made of 3-4 basic pieces.

I think there was something very similar in Paul Hague's first naval wargaming book.

Yep, the original Sea Battles In Miniature had very similar ones – I remember making a few when I was about 15. I think the second edition switched to 1/600 models, but I loved the original one.

Has the Sea Battles in Miniature been re-released through the 'history of wargaming' project? If not, where could someone find a copy? I would love to get a set of temlates for the ships shown on the cover!

Not that I know of – I got mine off of Abe books – you need to check it's the first edition though, as the second doesn't have them. I'd offer to scan them, but from a quick rummage can't find where the heck my copy is – must be buried in an archive box somewhere, sorry.

Thanks for the thought re. the scan Dom. If it ever surfaces during a re-organize, I'm sure I will still be interested! In the meantime I'll troll around for a 1st ed copy – might get a luck break.

The second book isn't a 2nd edition as such – it's a whole new book with a "more grown up" approach to rules and models. It's good fun, but I like the first book too !

There's a review of the second book on the Lone Warrior Blog in the Classic Books of wargaming section – PDF link . Looks as if Sea battles hasn't been reviewed yet.

This book has a section in the appendix where the author shows how me makes scale galley models out of wood. It may be useful to you.
