Things in Skull & Crown studios have been busy, with three new models coming out this month! The first is the much asked for Napoleonic British officer.

As with my other cavalry models, the British officer sprue has extra hands and hats to let you build out many variations, from battalion officer to major general.

I love these things but lack the skill to paint them.

My feelings exactly. But Skull and Crown's work is awesome!

Mr Skull & Crown's work is absolutely awesome, but realized he does also have a university degree in art. So us mere mortals should not try to compare our meager talents to his.

Here is an example some of his Queen Victorian Robot Wars figures I (an average painter) have done. The painting style is definitely different, much more "paint by numbers" like since the figures are flat. But once you understand the differences, it's pretty easy to do.

There is also an army template in the downloads section of his retail site (www.skullncrown.com) that has black and white line drawings of the infantry so you can practice painting before you start on the actual figures.

Disclaimer: I know Mr Skull & Crown so of course want his business to do well.

Mssrs Rdfraf and Morrigan, as the laser etches the lines on the models, they are very easy to paint. I have done "paint and take" with kids at local stores and conventions, and everyone does just fine. Some customers use felt pens to paint up the models.

I'll be setting up a painting tutorial on my store site soon.

Black Cavalier- those look great and thanks for the plug!

I really like theses guys and they seem perfect for my kids. They already like the Waulkerloo PDF flats, and they enjoy WFB. However, they get frustrated at painting the fantasy models. These look to be a grand solution to hooking my brood further in the hobby! I'll have to coordinate with Santa on getting four forces for Christmas! They already are proficient with the wood models and craft paint, so this should be a fun family project.
Any plans for boxed armies or paired starter sets?

Skull and Crown09 Feb 2014 9:51 p.m. PST

Cadian- Glad you asked!
Yes, I already have unit deals, and have done "starter set" package deals at the conventions-and will soon be setting up the same on my website.

I'll be announcing it here, and of course on my blog when it happens.

The models are very easy to assemble with just wood glue, and paint up quite well with craft paint. The attached image was painted by Ken Cliffe (of All the Kings Men fame)
uses craft paints on his armies, and they come out awesome!

As they are made of birch plywood, they are very sturdy. After all- they are designed to be hit by rubber balls! My goal when designing Wooden Wars models was that my grandchildren would be playing with the same models my children and I built and painted together.

Cheers!

I really like the look! With four kids to spoil, starter sets would make it a breeze. Or I could just get them infantry and keep the artillery and cavalry for Daddy! ;)

Hi. Love the Wooden Wars figures. Does anyone know where I can get them from in England and how much they cost?

Thanks davejl
