I have just completed my DBA army of Vlad the Impaler, you can see it here in all it's gory glory on my blog: link Thanks for looking!

Interesting. Vlad has always been an intreging character to me. |

Thanks, yeah, he's an interesting fella, indeed. |

Where did you get the impaled people? |

They came from Donnington Miniatures, I actually picked them up at Vapnartak last weekend. They are only 30 pence each

Not to be too picky, but Donnington has apparently not done all their research on impalement. Nice work on the army. |

Yes, I know, but if you can find another manufacturer of impaled victims, you're a better man than I am, Gunga Din. Thanks! |

Isn't it the case that there are various "styles" of implement? Here is a example
This is a nice looking army and ready for DBA Three 2.0 list x3Cv (gen), 3x2LH, 5xPs, 2x3Bw, 1x5Wb. Changes for DBA Three, no more 5Wb as these are now 5 Horde. add optional general 3Kn, add optional 2 x 4Bw, replace 5Wb with 1 x 5Hd or Ps or Art or LH. |

Yeah Bob, I was going to mention that portrait of Vlad, as I think that is what the Donnington minis are based on. I wanted to get a table and seated Vlad figure as well
The changes for DBA three make it much more rounded army, but does the 4Bw make a difference to the 3Bw? |

4Bw and 3Bw are different in DBA 3, yes. The Kn general option applies primarily to Moldovans (tho obviously the DBA police won't shoot you if you apply it to a nominally Wallachian army). |

Well there is a long article on impalement on Wikipedia which makes for uncomfortable reading. This is certainly a camp nobody will want to raid!! |

I have several books on Vlad and apparently he learnt his impaling method from the Turks. The victim is laid horizontally on the ground, then using a small sharp implement a small cut is made above and below the sphincter, the stake is then inserted into this hole very slowly. Once the stake is the require length into the anal passage the pole and victim are raised to a vertical position, the stake moves up through the victims body until the impaler judges it to be at the correct length, the feet are then nailed to the stake so the victim cannot slide back down it. The victim dies from the inability to breath in a similar way to crucifixion. Hope this helps, all the best

You have to ask yourself -was all this absolutely necessary! |
