So, saw the movie. Great war movie? Of course not, not what it tries to be at all. But all in all a decent movie. And for those of us who appreciate such things, I'd say it has scenes of the logistical side of war rarely if ever seen in Hollywood movies. Kudos on that front – I bet we see some tent cities in games soon.

I know its been given lots of less than great reviews but it isn't as bad as some say. Sure, it could be better. But, really, how many special effects extravaganzas can we all stomach? I'm heartily sick of the tripe. At least here you get to see real actors acting – and mostly good jobs. And a nice bit of humor in the mix. More importantly, there is some real heart behind some of the story.

(And, yes, I know the delay in opening was because of FX needs – but there is a difference between a movie with story and FX background versus FX foreground (read wait for the video game because we already have the graphics done) that has some donkey-lame story tacked on. So loose it falls off in the middle of the picture.)

I miss actual actors doing real acting rather than CG work carrying most of the picture with a pretty face for two seconds with some intense look in the eyes and then more "transformer" stomping. Really, Hollywood – we are not all nine years old.

Sounds good--hopefully I will see it today.

WE aren't, but the vast majority of the movie going public IS (at least mentally). They don't want to think at movies and seeing things "blow up real good" sells tickets, so expect lots more of the same…

I'll wait until it makes it to HBO or some other channel …

I'm one of those who likes 'blows up real good' movies, but I did see Monuments Men last night and overall I liked it. It was a bit uneven but in the end it was a good story and well acted.

PLEASE tell me that they did not do a scene with Matt Damon stepping on a landmine and thinking it will not go off until he lifts his foot.

PLEASE!

They did :(

There were some nice views of military vehicles.

I thought it was a decent movie that touched on a little known aspect of the war.

I thought the quality of the kit overall was good. As you say, some lovely vehicles, also some nice airplanes. They even managed to get WW2 carbines for the guys instead of the much more available post-war conversions.
