Saw the advert for this during the Superbowl and was intrigued – only to find out (those who actaully watch TV) get to look forward to four more months of saturation advertising before it actually airs in *JULY*

"The Strain totally reimagines and reinvents the genre". On frist reading, it's enough to scare ME away. But then, given the dreck that passes for Vampire stories today, maybe it's a good thing. I like the TV series Dracula because THOSE vampires are good old fashion, rip your throat out and feast on your blood, bad ass VAMPIRES, not wimpy, little, emo, I need your blood but I don't want to hurt you so please love me and I'll only take a few sips, pseudo-vampires. Perhaps this belongs on the Rant board.

I read the book few years ago.Started good, but bored me as it moved along. I was not motivated enough to take up on the remaining parts of the trilogy.

"Man, what the heck happened?"

Because of Twilight vampires became popular with the Tweens, so it all has to be fairly bland and innocuous so as not to offend their delicate sensibilities…

Re: Twilight and Vampire Academy attraction.

You (the studios) have to feed into the psyche to reach success.

Consider Hannah Montana. Pure dreck to anyone with half a brain cell of awareness, but for the right demographic, it feeds their "living vicarious" pyche:

1. Be *really* famous.
2. While also maintaining normality (no fallout to self/school/friends/family due to that extreme fame.)
3. Have a secret no one else knows but you and whomever YOU decide to tell.
4. Parent(s) live their life at your beck & call to further your fame or save your anonymity as the need arises.

No wonder it became a hit and launched Miley.

Twilight has the *right* amount of danger, safety, normality and romantic emotions to feed the target demographic.

Vampire Academy looks to be hitting more the action-oriented/sexy-elite-schoolgirl/class-rivalry areas (I think.)

The producers of 'Vampire Academy' are trying to distance it from 'Twilight' by selling it as an adolescent dark comedy with 'bite,' no pun intended. It's written by Daniel Waters, who wrote the screenplay of the cult fav 'Heathers,' and directed by his brother Mark (who also directed 'Mean Girls').

Usually I would go for a movie like this, but from what I've seen of the trailer it looks bad. Plus, they have not allowed the movie to be screened by critics, which is usually a sign that they know it's not going to be well received.

Heathers and Mean Girls are both very good. Not very good tween films, but very good films full stop. I think I'll reserve judgement on Vampire Academy until I see it.

sounds to me like they are just replacing zombies with vampires

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought it was about Studio McVey's Sedition Wars Strain and had a Whiskey Tango Foxtrot ?!!? moment.
