Very pleased to preview the Federal Scythian Heavy Gun System which will be available in a few months. This vehicle mounts a huge 240mm plasma launcher on the reliable Sabre tank hull, giving the cannon system a great deal of protection.

picture

Firing this weapon at full strength requires more energy than can be generated internally in the Sabre-class hull, so it is fitted with a generator trailer. The vehicle was originally driven by tracks but as part of the MEP (Mobility Enhancement Program) some vehicles were retrofitted with low hover anti-grav engines. (The trailers were retrofitted as well.)

These vehicles have been used very effectively in both indirect and direct fire modes, and are particularly effective at dismantling heavy enemy targets such as mecha.

The master shown in the picture above is the 28mm version but the 15mm version is identical in all respects (only smaller!). It will probably be available in 15mm before 28mm (I assume--unless my 28mm caster gets them turned around very fast!). Stay tuned for details.

Assuming the aforementioned plasma launcher is an energy weapon, how does it conduct indirect fire?

Soldado07 Feb 2014 12:13 a.m. PST

Awesome. not much else needs saying really, well done sir.

khurasanminiatures07 Feb 2014 12:18 a.m. PST

Assuming the aforementioned plasma launcher is an energy weapon, how does it conduct indirect fire?

Chambered plasma. Plasma has to be somehow contained to be used at any range, of course, direct fire or indirect.

Thanks soldado!

Nice. I love the trailer too.

Want. Now.

TK 42107 Feb 2014 3:49 a.m. PST

Wow, with that thing you can hit a target 10 tables away.

FritsK07 Feb 2014 4:43 a.m. PST

Hmm, I am getting visions of a similar over-the-top version of the siler:-)

Capitan Chinchilla07 Feb 2014 5:09 a.m. PST

Hmmm… nice .

Now we only need the Nova Respublik equivalent…

On a Red Banner chassis , of course…

Capitan Chinchilla07 Feb 2014 5:12 a.m. PST

And talking about diversifing the Red Banner , have you (Khurasan) considered doing an additional/separate turret models for AA , artillery , od tank-hunter vartiants? .

A different turret , don´t know… BMP-T-ish , for a anti-air & anti -tank variant would be very nice , indeed…

wminsing07 Feb 2014 6:43 a.m. PST

Neat!

Heinz Good Aryan07 Feb 2014 8:09 a.m. PST

looks like the howitzer tank in that video game!!!

khurasanminiatures07 Feb 2014 8:20 a.m. PST

Which game is that? Curious to see it.

Fritadas07 Feb 2014 9:21 a.m. PST

Khurasan, every vehicle you release is better than the last, and all are gorgeous. Your more recent releases/previews have reminded me of the Northern Star Alliance from Ground Control II in their clean lines/ rugged appearence

kallman07 Feb 2014 9:30 a.m. PST

Khurasanminis is one of the main reasons I collect and game 15mm Science Fiction. The above model is just one reason why. Agree Captain C that we need a Nova Respublik equivalent. Dito on the AA and tank hunter variants.

A thing of beauty that epitomizes the unofficial credo of the artillerymen of the Imperial Terran Marine Corps, that "There's No Such Thing as Excessive Firepower!"evil grin

Excellent as usual. But I've come to expect no less of you.

still cant think of the name of that game but the tank in it looked like this……

Only laser light would be line of sight only. Plasma is sorta like a gas so as Khurasan points out if you develop a tech to contain it then it can be fired indirectly. Something similar to a sabot round or a small magnetic field generator that shuts down on impact.

Actually a system like that could get rather interesting in game. Give it an impact mode or an air burst mode. So impact delivers an armor/building punching blast of energy by funneling all the plasma into one point and the air burst mode showers an area with plasma for anti-infantry. I guess if you can send a field generator with the plasma that it can either dissipate in the air or manipulate it's shape to create an invisible shaped charge of plasma. That much energy applied to one point would melt just about anything. This of course is assuming that the plasma is the medium for transporting thermodynamic energy instead of explosive energy. I.E. they don't go boom but they are REALLY hot. Sorta like super napalm. Could lead to some very interesting anti-plasma tank designs. Big heat sink fins designed as a defense against standard shaped charges but it also has a cooling fluid running through it to transfer plasma heat applied to one area through the entire armor structure. Dissipating the heat quickly would reduce the damage. Would be fun to scratch build some armor attachments out of small heat sinks.

Oh, wow! That's a beauty!

Lion in the Stars07 Feb 2014 2:06 p.m. PST

Just the thing to reinforce my Federal Exterminators! (along with the Sabre)

khurasanminiatures07 Feb 2014 4:15 p.m. PST

The turret swaps for Nova Respublik are a great idea -- I may do a set that the gamer can pick up to give several vehicle options. Like resin Hamburger Helper. grin

Redroom07 Feb 2014 4:22 p.m. PST

Like it

You actually can have too much firepower. Reference the "Davy Crockett" recoilles rifle.

Short version: It fired an atomic bomb to a maximum distance of 2.5 miles (4 km). Would you want to be that close to nuke? Not my momma's baby boy. She didn't raise fools.

Except for my sister, but we usually don't talk about her in polite society. (she's an attorney)

J Womack 9407 Feb 2014 4:34 p.m. PST

But more on topic: Cool looking SP gun. Well done.

khurasanminiatures07 Feb 2014 4:35 p.m. PST

Yeah Womack let's not forget the ill-fated atomic hand grenade….

Lion in the Stars07 Feb 2014 6:41 p.m. PST

Well, most grenades are hard to throw far enough to keep *you* out of the blast radius. Particularly US grenades.

And I still really like this. Just getting mine in 15mm, not 28mm.

Lfseeney08 Feb 2014 12:29 a.m. PST

That is why there are walls!
Also another reason baseball and softball is popular.

Just imagine 20 Women fast pitching grenades down a hill, of approaching aliens.

Eclipsing Binaries08 Feb 2014 10:16 a.m. PST

Jon, would you let us use the 28mm version as a REALLY big 15mm tank?

khurasanminiatures08 Feb 2014 11:30 p.m. PST

You can use it as a doorstop if you want!

Chatticus Finch10 Feb 2014 4:24 p.m. PST

Man that thing looks ace! Great work there and cannot wait to see the Red equivalent.

Will you have a MDMS artillery piece as well when you release those?

khurasanminiatures10 Feb 2014 10:07 p.m. PST

No, that would have to come later.

FritsK09 Mar 2014 1:14 p.m. PST

To elborate more on my siler comment:
The siler has 2 sets of identical tracks on each side. Could something similar be made using the siler as a base, but with 3 tracks on a side? An extended hull with a turret at the front, and a rear that has the same height as the turret containing the generator?

Chatticus Finch21 Nov 2014 11:34 p.m. PST

Realising there's plenty of different designs you still have in the works, is there any news on this model being made available yet?

khurasanminiatures21 Nov 2014 11:37 p.m. PST

It's going to be released in 15mm scale as both a Grav and a tracked tank!

Chatticus Finch22 Nov 2014 12:15 a.m. PST

Sweet :) I'm making my lists and checking them twice trust me! A couple of these bad boys, the new Mekanoids, the MDMS Drone and the Goanna/CaneToad tanks… plenty of exciting models coming down the pipeline from you!

Nice. I love the trailer too.

So, John, will these be added to the Antargran inventory any time soon?

khurasanminiatures22 Nov 2014 8:03 a.m. PST

I assume he's waiting for me to release them! grin

I was going to release the four nations blowers this week or next (it's a big holiday week in the states so releases this coming week may slip off the radar) but I reckon I'll release these instead.

The Sabres and Scythians are often used in OPFOR units, crewed by veteran tankers who know Nova Respublik tactics well, and for fun we had them painted up in the colours of an OPFOR Training Company--and beautiful brushwork too as you'll soon see!

John Treadaway22 Nov 2014 9:48 a.m. PST

So, John, will these be added to the Antargran inventory any time soon?

I think that'd be a great idea :)

I will put my planning/thinking cap on :)

What do people see as the function of the trailer. Ammo storage (plasma charges/regular ammo or whatever) or just for the crew to keep their sandwiches in?

Is it modelled with a connector of some sorts to the AFV itself (yeah, I know in 15mm that might be hard to represent) or is it just a neat place to put the seperate ammo reloads that won't detonate and kill everyone in the vehicle when it's hit by the opposition??

khurasanminiatures22 Nov 2014 11:24 a.m. PST

It's got a towing hook and eye arrangement. It's meant as a power generator/cell to exploit the massive cannon's full potential. Without the trailer the gun can still shoot but either at a lower rate of fire, or with less power.

McWong7322 Nov 2014 3:32 p.m. PST

Four Nation blowers! Pretty please?

seldonH23 Nov 2014 6:13 a.m. PST

and another vote for extra turrets for the Nova Republik… I'm still looking for something I can use as AA for the New Ukrainian Army in The Crucible…

I will use the Dracon as heavy tank and the red banners as the medium tank…

War Monkey23 Nov 2014 8:13 a.m. PST

Mobil Planetary Defense Gun!?

Having a few of those around would make for a great game!
Get your teams in a Knock them out for the following forces. :D

One of the concepts of the Slammer's background amongst mercenaries is one of specialisms: the forces that don't have built in artillery, light infantry or – say – AAA will "buy it in" from other mercs who excel in this field.

Doesn't apply to full planetary armies, though…

For example – as ou've indicated – the New Ukraininans – having passed over from being the mercenary Zaparoyski Brigade to running the planet – have their own built in Arty.

I guess that's a good reason for doing one for the Antargrans though :)

I will work on it I promise Dave L :)

A couple of people mentioned about a Siler version of the 240mm cannon, I personally think it'd look like an absolute beast as a ultra heavy Jagdpanzer variant with the cannon in a fixed superstructure housing! :)

khurasanminiatures23 Nov 2014 11:04 p.m. PST

There is a tank hunter with the Silers gun upcoming, called the Sobek.

FritsK24 Nov 2014 2:20 p.m. PST

No siler in a similar configuration (with trailer)?
Or an extended siler with 3 instead of 2 tracks on each side as a humongous mlrs platform?

As everyone knows: bigger is better:-)

panzersaurkrautwerfer24 Nov 2014 4:13 p.m. PST

I'm leaning more towards using it as a dedicated anti-tank vehicle. In my in-universe fiction conventional chemical energy weapons are still the primary tank weapons system, with the various energy or rail gun weapons being a bit too expensive, or having some additional requirements that make them incompatible with a conventional tank.

Will likely use the trailer for something else, but it'll be my rail gun carrier. barrel is the shroud for the mounting/cooling system for the rails themselves, with the actual munition size being quite modest. The armor is also much reduced to keep the weight manageable. The radar looking doodad looks about right for a secondary anti-air/missile purpose, or failing that some manner of full spectrum scanner to allow accurate direct fire out to the horizon.
