Have the starter, but am curious if others have suggestions as to what to buy next. Note: One new ship per faction, to make interesting, somewhat balanced games, for the three in the box.

Apologies if this has been discussed before, muchas gracias if a link to same is posted!

With just the starter box I'd look at adding a second X-wing (Wedge card) and maybe a Tie Advanced (Vader). It just looks right.

Another option is to pick up a second starter set (amazon has them for around 26 dollars) which is the cost of two minis. You end up with extra templates and dice (all good) plus 4 ties total and 2 x-wings. You can print your own Wedge cards etc. from sources on the internet so unless you're playing competitively there's no need to buy the special X-wing blister. Two starter boxes gives you enough to get a real feel for the game, after that you can buy whatever interests you.

I think he's talking about the Star Trek game, not the X-Wing game.

Oops. Your right, my bad. I have Attack Wing, too, but I just bought things that appealed to me thematically--Reliant, D7, old school and movie. I don't go in for any of that Dominion War silliness.

Me too I went strictly for thematically appealing choices. I got the Valdore because I liked the looks, I like Romulans and the sculpt and paint job was decent. Conversely I avoided the USS Enterprise because the model is a total joke. I also got a Klingon Bird-of-Prey to complement the Vor'Cha from the boxed set and because it is such an iconic ship.

You can go to afewmaneuvers.com and they have a ST:AW section in the forums. There you can easily find all the stats and cards for each ship released so far which should help you decide.

I dunno… I'd take Wedge Antilles over Tom Parris any day of the week

I'd take Snake Plissken over nerdy SW or ST

Chuck Norris for the win…

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Thanks, all! I have it on good authority that you take the Enterprise for the cards, but then you use them in totally in appropriate ways to my taste.

"…which should help you decide…", except, I was looking for someone to do the work FOR me. ;->=

Just getting started, and would like three sets of playable against each other pairs of ships. The kind of thing you'd suggest to three friends considering buying one set and three expansions to try it out.

I've gotten some suggestions on PM's which I'll add here later.

Again, very much appreciate your sharing your opinions!

Aforementioned PM's (First commenter, then moi, then reply):

Negh'var, Excelsior, Valdore. If you're going to do Dominion as well, Kraxon and Koranak are probably best, or wait and get the Jem'hadar battleship and an attack ship to partner with it.

---

Okay, I've got the Negh'var and the Reliant [mostly personal thing]. I thought [heard] the Excelsior was 'meh' except for some special cards. Other side of the coin, I though Valdore was a monster.

One of those things of not having much chance to play after purchase, but want the grandson to be exposed to something besides X-Wing. ;->=

---

Excelsior is a "buy it for the ship" pack in my opinion. The cards are fair-to-good, but the ship stats are as good as it gets for Feds ouside of the Galaxy/Ent-D. Still needs photons to really do work but at least it's tough enough to stay on the table for a while, which can't be said of the Constitution or Miranda classes. Defiant's a little tougher, but still a poor buy compared to the Excelsior from what I've seen. It's the wide firing arcs that make the Excelsior shine, and the tech slot (which the Galaxy lacks) can be really helpful, especially if you're crossfactioning upgrades.

If you're looking for slightly less nasty ships that would work well with the Reliant and Galaxy, the best bets are probably the Kronos-One/K'Tinga class for the Klingons and the upcoming TOS Warbird for the Romulans, which should be out in a week or two. Valdore and Negh'var are both monsters, much scarier than a Reliant, but that puts them on par with the starter set ships, which are pretty burly themselves even before upgrades. ---

I'll be picking up the D7-ish shortly.
