Hello,

I am interested in sourcing some 15mm Italians, including Neapolitans for 1809-1815. I am having a hard time finding a variety of manufacturers that make them in the UK, I know Old Glory makes and Warmodelling has a limited range but I am having hard time finding any others. My taste for miniatures tends to be in the middle of price/quality scale.

It seems odd, since the Italians has several regiments and fought in many major campaigns from the Peninsula, Wagram, Russia, and Liepzieg.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Jahan

For the most part, iirc, Italian uniforms were moreorless identical to those of their French counterparts other than colour. What differences there were would be unnoticeable in 15mm. The exception to this is the Italian artillery, both horse and foot. According to Von Pivka the foot artillery wore a peakless shako; the horse a Polish style Czapka.

I recall that OG offers Italian artillery in 15mm but they are not depicted in the above mentioned heargear but standard French shakos. I can't recall whom, but someone does indeed make "proper" Italian artillerymen, perhaps Battle Honours or Minifigs.

Hope that helps.

Alci, thanks for the info, can you comment at all on the Neapolitans as well? I am having particular trouble finding info on their uniforms.

You can find lots of information on the Neapolitans here: link

The text is in French (though I think there may also be a translation into English) but there are lots of uniform plates as well.

In that case have a look at the Campaign Games' range of 1815 French – bit.ly/N8RXiI

Thanks for the answers, is there anyone else that can chime in or provide a source as to whether French infantry would be suitable as Italians? I admit they look similar but comparing different plates can be tricky.

I think if you go for french troops in campaign dress you would not go far wrong. There is a good site – Napitalia – which might answer your queries.

Go for early french uniforms or campaign dress – the italians hung onto the pre 1812 uniforms and over the knee gaiters for line infantry and they seem to have worn the bicorn on the march till 1809 at least.
