Rather surprising:

I always fancied a Battle of Britain air fleet.. So maybe time to get excited!

Interesting, but I must admit I'm surprised at the choice of scale – I'd have thought 1/144 more viable, although obviously there's less existing competition in 1/100.

I know some WW2 15mm fans who would prefer to use 1/100 scale planes instead of 1/144 for their games.

Yeah, I presume that's a factor in their thinking – there's always been a chunk of the Flames Of War community that never liked the choice of 1/144 for air support, so they'll have a market there; similarly anyone that took to the Axis and Allies air game before it was axed will welcome a new 1/100 range. The downside is the size of bomber models though.

Dom, that's what I was going to say about A&A; we'll just have to see where they go with the range.

Very excited to see this! I am one of those that prefers 1/100 aircraft with my 15mm.

Damon.

Its for the New EE bunch. FoW Yawn Yawn and bored, their first 4 choices proves this( No battle of Britain, no pasific air war just suppot for FoW) I've never said this about a company before but, lame choices. Whose's in charge over at Big Vs.? They have opportunities to expand the envelope (eg. Do multi-kits on Space sci fi. ships.-I would if I had the ka-ching- its a winner idea) but no they are product clones at the moment) my 2ps worth. Cheers

Very surprised at these. I can see people wanting the odd plane for ground support but lots of them…

I can think of a few things that I think would have been a better bet.

1/285 WW2 'squadron in a box' one piece, no assembly, paint them on the sprue if you like. Decal sheets included.

1/144 WW1 Simple kits aimed at the war gamer given just how popular Wings of War/Glory WW1 has become but the painted ARES planes are getting very expensive in the UK if you want a flight. The Valom kits are too complex for gamers and too fragile. If a kit plane came in at around £3.00 GBP I think they'd have had a sure fire winner.

This to me is a bit of a duff choice… Mind you I said that about Perry 28mm Western Desert…

As a wargamer I will only need one of each, but as a plastic modeller I certainly will build the other two in the box with different markings.

jakethedog06 Feb 2014 9:55 a.m. PST

I agree that its good to move in a place with no competition

why make 1/144s if everyone and their mother makes them!

I'd certainly buy that. We use 1/144 models for Check Your 6! games, and it's not always easy finding them. And often, they're far more "fiddly" than they need to be for wargaming.

why make 1/144s if everyone and their mother makes them!

Everyone and their mother doesn't make them – that's the problem. The old Revell kits are getting harder to find, and lots of the Japanese "F-Toy" type kits have sky-rocketed in price over the last couple of years. And some Nationalities aren't very well covered – there's usually LOTS of German, US and Japanese models, with some British thrown in, but it's difficult trying to find Russian planes. Hopefully, more Russian models will become available now that Zvezda are starting to produce some!

I will buy some! However, I do hope that they will do WW I planes at some point.

I think 1/100 Is still a bit big for air combat games. Dom has a good point about the size of bombers in this scale.

I'd have though 1/144 the sensible choice too.

Timmo uk07 Feb 2014 2:46 a.m. PST

I guess since they are computer designs they could be rescaled.

Jemima Fawr26 Mar 2014 3:15 a.m. PST

I don't play FoW, but I do play a lot of WW2 in 15mm and I only use 1/100th aircraft. The choice at present is very limited, so it's brilliant to see some new models in the scale.
