Hello all. Mrs. PzGeneral and I have purchased our first tablets and I've learned that there are old school hex and chit wargame apps available. Does anyone have any recommendations? It's an Android system tablet, but I've been told many apps are written for multiple platforms.

Oh, in particular I'm looking for games that may be played against a real person besides just an AI.

thanks,

Dave

Look up John Tiller Software, they have a number of their Panzer Campaigns titles ported over to tablets. Not sure if they allow playing against a real person in the tablet version though. I only own the PC versions.

Try searching for DK Simulations in the app store. He has some good ones covering a variety of periods.

I heard, but have no experience myself, that many old DOS and even Win9X games can be played on Android using emulators, such as "DosBox" or others. That would include John Tiller's old Talonsoft games (provided you own them), that don't work anymore on modern computers.

I have an iPad and have purchased through iTunes the following;

I have Panzer Corps from Slitherene – this has a multiplayer option and is hex based. It is very good – I have only played it solo though.

I also have Battle Academy from Slitherene – although I have only played it a couple of times it is pretty good – very nice graphics. Also multiplayer – not sure how this works.

I have played many times Civil War 2 by Hexwars.com – hex based. Not sure that it has a multiplayer mode though

Hope that helps

Thanks guys. We saw the DK titles…They play hot seat…but I'll look up others.

Yes, the Hexwar games can be played head-to-head. As far as I know, only on the same tablet via pass and play, though.

There is a little game called Touch Tanks that the Little Prince and I play – not a bad little game!

Some of these are boardgame ports but may still be of interest, I have them all on my Ipad, they maybe available for Android. Small World, Summoner War, Elder Signs, Carcassonne, Viking Lords, Parcours.robo(It's Roborally), Ticket to Ride. Also you might want to check out Battle for Wesnoth, it's a decent hex based fantasy game.

Titan is also available for iPad. It has a multi-player mode and I find the execution is actually better on the pad.

Uniwar is excellent, and allows for head to head I believe.

I've wasted dozens of hours playing the port of Spaceward Ho! on my Android.

@McWong- I like Uniwar, too. I actually did some 15mm sculpts loosely based on the Khraleans a while back…
