Hello, all. I've been trying to teach myself the intricacies of the EPUB format lately, and am making steady progress. So I decided, eh, why not, and converted a couple of freely-distributed wargaming rules currently available on the Internet as EPUBS. If you have an e-reader of some sort that can read an epub file, you might be interested. First two projects: RENCOUTER, a basic 19th century skirmish rule set by Ed Allen A HOTTER FIRE, an Ironclads combat game by Alan Saunders I will likely do more of these shortly, if there's an interest in it. 2/7 Update: I added a download of MUNERA SINE MISSIONE gladiator rules, which I rather like.
Ciao! Walt |

Walt, this strikes me as a very cool and generous endeavor on your part, so thanks! I'm a laptop and iPhone guy who has yet to succomb to the siren compromise call of the iPad or any other tablet, but my wife has one, and the guy who probably qualifies as my closest wargaming buddy -- despite the fact we barely ever play wargames -- has one, so I am going to use their tools to get started with "Rencounter" and see where it takes me. Thanks again! PS: Just realized one of my oldest and closest friends in the world is flying in tomorrow to spend the weekend with me and my family
and he's both a huge computer guy -- who it's a safe assumption will be bringing a tablet -- AND far more importantly, we spent much of our youth playing miniature games together, so hopefully we'll have a chance to get started this weekend. BTW, I've long enjoyed your splendidly eclectic blog! |

Thanks for the kind words, Mad G. It started out as a desire to get smarter on EPUBs and MOBI formats, but also it's a practical decision. I run games mostly-paperless games frequently (on an Ipad but not neccesarily so). PDFs are very nice for retaining the original publisher's format, but they are space hogs and not searchable. Epub is a much more flexible format for adding TOCs (Tables of Content) and hyperlinks, so you can jump back and forth to critical sections quickly. I don't think we'll see big multipaged, color layout rules in this format any time soon, but it's great for a small, simple ruleset without a lot of pictures and diagrams. You know, like the ones I have already posted. "Splendidly eclectic" I like that! That pretty much sums it up! :-D Walt |

Update: I've moved the epubs to a page (the DIGITAL RULES tab at the top of the blog) so that they are easier to find as I add more. Direct link to the page: link I've also added an epub for Ty Beard's FIL OF TRIPODS.
Have fun!!! Walt |

That's interesting.. The first time I've ever typed ANYthing that got "Bleeped" by this site. Is there something profane about a fistful of something? Walt |
