Over meny years of wargaming I have see at shows and on this site beautifully painted and based figures that are let down by one thing,
The edges of flags,standards,banners and pennants not being painted.
I have to say they stick out lick a sore thumb.
(now I have mentioned them you will see them every where)
After gluing to gether and putting a nice wave in them they just need finishing off.

I agree and I have always painted the edges. It makes a huge difference in the look. I also put nice waves and krinkles in the them. Unpainted edges and flat flags do not appeal to my realistic approach that I strive for!

Yes it is a detail often overlooked. I always touch up the edges of my flags and pennants, and the creases formed when making waves in the flags.

Just playing devils advocate. Sometimes the solution to the problem is worse than the problem itself.
