All

I am going to paint my Perry Plastic Austrians as Mahrische Landwehr and this is just a question about the crossbelts.

Are they actually red or are they leather? They look red in the illustration

Thanks

F

Where did you find illustrations for Austrian Landwehr? I've found one or two places that have a few plates, but none of the names on the plates match the names that are in the OB I'm using (from Wagram). All I've found described is that the various Landwehr uniforms were based on the regional costuming of the battalions.

I'm pretty sure they are meant to be "natural leather" color, rather than red. But I can't cite any source for that, either.

Thanks Wee. That's the same site I've come across. Here's the list of Landwehr regiments that are in the OB that I can't place among those or any other plates I've got in books etc.

Vienna Woods Landwehr
Hradischer Landwehr
Berunner Landwehr
Znaimer Landwehr
Lobkowitz Jager Freikorps
Iglauer Landwehr
Carneville Landwehr

So, since we are on the topic of Landwehr, can someone give me some direction on which of these names correspond to the plates in Wee's link?

Thanks

Dan

Sorry for not being able to help you with the Lobkowitz and Carneville (as far as I remember these were Frei-Korps with no special regional links), but:
Vienna Woods = Wienerwald = Lower Austria
Hradisch = Bohemian or Moravian, not quite sure at the moment
"Berunner" [Brünner], Znaimer, Iglauer = Moravian

Dan,

For Carneville Freikorps infantry see my Blog:

Natural leather I'm sure. There wasn't much of uniform budget for these guys, and material to make straps red rather than black or white would be a bit specialist and expensive.

Just guessing though.

Thanks, guys. I figured they were districts within a region, but failed in ID'ing which was where.

Guys

I went off the Perry painting guide that came in the box.

I went with red, because it looks cool. You can see half of the finished unit here
