Has anyone gleaned or guess which ones they are, yet
or still a mystery? |
Ancestral Hamster | 01 Feb 2014 9:57 p.m. PST |
Still a mystery, but once I wondered what crime could be so terrible that they would be stricken from the histories when the Traitor Legions were kept on the rolls, despite treason and a failed coup de main! A friend's answer was that they were badly painted, and for that all record of them HAD to be erased. |
Ping Pong | 01 Feb 2014 10:20 p.m. PST |
Their names were Squat Friends and Slann Pals. |
JLA105 | 01 Feb 2014 10:21 p.m. PST |
Their offense was using non-GW proxies in battle. |
Tacitus | 01 Feb 2014 11:42 p.m. PST |
I believe they might have been the "Priestly Legion" and the "Cavatore Company". Both stricken from the records for having betrayed the emperor from within the very halls of the emeror's hallowed headquarters. They have since been scattered to the void. Where they are doing quite nicely

Unsupported rumour: made up from female marines – and being too successfull. |
Mithmee | 02 Feb 2014 9:10 a.m. PST |
"Priestly Legion" and the "Cavatore Company". Both of which have gone off and created new companies that are now cutting into GW profit line. Their current crime is producing and selling miniatures for far less than GW. |

Those were Rogue Trader and early 40K times, when the game was done to play and enjoy it. Those two were left blank for the players to come with their own, as IIRC the original designers said themselves. In a weird movement (or lack of it) GW never retconned it, although GW has not had qualms retconning other major events. |

Spot on Dogged, and boy did we all have fun painting those madeup Legions, ah! The first plastic Space Marines with the MkVI "womble helmets. What joy that rogue trader period, very fond memories. |

In the Heresy book, Fear To Tread, Horus and Sanguinius talk about them. They don't give many details because the 'incident' was so horrific that they speak of them in hush tones. The conversation started with the BA gene mutation and Horus says to Sanguinius to ask the Emperor for his help, perhaps he can help. Sanguinius is aghast and fearful at the suggestion telling Horus he did not want the Emperor to do to the BA's what he did to those other two legions. Don |

It has to be something to do with Azathoth, Hastur or his ilk, something that chaos gods themselves (which appear to be born from sentient races) would flee from. |

Thanks Ffolkes, I was at Deering Estate all day, walked close to seven miles (plus the exercise course at Coral Reef Park on the way to, earlier in the AM). Just now getting back into gear. Considering how deeply and dastardly the "Word Bearer's" sunk while still, technically, loyal; as stated above those two legions must have done something horrendous
or maybe something just whispered about. Who knows, but I wonder if the Emperor ever consider that his entire gene seed pool was suspect, since the honestly GOOD legions (as opposed to loyal) could be counted on 3-5 fingers and that's even pushing it. HH continues to drop a few clues and hints, but still to few to put anything together. |

The GW crew alway alluded to there is nothing wrong with making up your own SM Legion/Regiments etc.
So for your own gaming purposes those two missing Legions could be anything you like
since remember
GW made it all up away
But I've seen some really scary Fan Marine units, like the Sons of Elvis and the Hello Kitty SMs

The biggest fact that is known is that the XIII legion, the Ultramarines, brought them both to answer and absorbed portions of both the II and the XI legions. It was for this reason that Lorgar of the Word Bearers says they are the largest legion. My guess is one of them turned and fought the other with the Ultras absorbing the remainder to make the heresy disappear
At least for a little while longer. |

Sons of Elvis and the Hello Kitty SM's I know they were the Sons of Bieber, so yes they had to be put down. |

'Sons of Elvis and the Hello Kitty SM's' I love it when 'I'm mad, me' wargamers put so much effort and time, in appearing 'wacky' John |

I've seen Tau done in '60s Flower Power schemes, bright psychedelic "groovy" colors, etc.

Well, they were supposed to be the anime-inspired army. So paint them like the Power Rangers (not that I would). |
