Paddy Griffith's book is good. But good enough for that price?! link

GROSSMAN31 Jan 2014 1:14 p.m. PST

And a used copy at that! If this is the same guy that wrote Battle in the Civil War it might be close.

KTravlos31 Jan 2014 1:24 p.m. PST

why buy that, when the new version is normal priced

WCTFreak31 Jan 2014 1:38 p.m. PST

that book is not worth a penny… napoleonic wargaming is no fun ! ;)

Funny thing is they are showing the cover of the edition that is still in print. Says its a paperback too which implies that it is the very same.

I picked up the reprint from the History of Wargaming Project which can be had through Lulu IIRC, and then went on to pick up a copy of the original edition for a fiver.

The reprint is very good but the photos didn't fare to well in that version. Not that it is a book you would buy for the photos mind you.

As it is I now have the paperback which is a bit the worse for ware and a reading copy for quiet contemplation.

Both are on the nightstand even now : )

Paddy would have thought that was very funny.

Maybe if it came with some drop dead gorgeous starlet to read it to you.

Never seen the book. Is it any good? I have to agree with WCTFreak. Napoleonic gaming in my experience has not been much fun. Too bad really as the period fascinates me.

It is good, yes. It has simple rules for 1:1 skirmishes, brigade vs brigade, division vs division, army vs army, and a generalship campaign game.

I have ordered it and look forward to reading it (not the overpriced version but the re-edition)

cavalry4701 Feb 2014 3:17 p.m. PST

Damn I have an original 1970-80's version, I was starting to get excited, mind you as a 12 year old I disagreed with some of his rules and have scribbled in pencil my changes, which may knock a couple of quid off
