I have volunteered to put on a commemorative WW1 naval game or two for a club Open Day. Does anyone have any suggestions for ship ranges (I would prefer 1/2400 as my WW2 ships are this scale)? I have looked around but do not seem to find suitable models for the armoured merchantmen Otranto or Macedonia in either scale. |

There was a post recently from a company advertising all the ships for the Falklands battle as very nicely coloured card counters. If you search on Falklands it will give you the post.bg |

I'm using the 1/3000 line from NavWar, and I believe that line has the Otranto. Or at least an armored merchantman that can sub in for the Otranto. Kevin |

I did Coronel/Falklands in 1/3000th, and yes, I used the Navwar 'Otranto'. (I think it is just a generic AMC). The linked battles make an interesting mini-campaign that can easily be played in a evening, if your rules aren't too complicated anyway! |

For a club demonstration game, the GHQ 1/2400 would be quite spectacular. Their World War I Micronaut range is stunning. You might have to use one of their World War II merchant vessels to serve as the Otranto and Macedonia, but few people will likely be aware of the stand-in. If you were doing Jutland, I'd say go for the 1/3000 scale. For Coronel & Falklands, with the fewer numbers of ships involved, go 1/2400! |

Panzerschiffe has a 1:2400 Armed Merchant Cruiser that I've used for Otranto. |

Thanks for all that. I'll have a look at the Navwar one but think I might end up with 1/2400. It might be a mix of Micronauts, CinC & Panzerschiffe but the extra detail of the bigger scale might win out in the end. |

Thanks for the link to Topside Minis but in this case I need 3D models for the spectacle. They do look good though & cheap even with the overseas postage. |

I have the same problem, trying to find muyself a 1/2400 substitutefor the Otranto. I think that the 1898 Saint Louis by WTJ miniatures looks promising: both ships have the same tonnage, both are two-funnels ships, both have a similar outlook. Here is a link to the St Louis link |

I think HMS Rawalpindi is the best fit. The size is very close, both are twin funnel AMC, the bridge is very similar but Otranto's superstructure is cut down toward the stern and Rawalpindi's isn't Viking Forge makes Seabattles' Rawalpindi SB325 Unfortunately there is no photo at the website link But here are some
uh no. Apparanetly I can't link to the photobucket from this tablet. Here is a link to HMS Rawalpindi link The Seabattles model is a good representation of Rawalpindi which is as close to Otranto as you will get in 1/2400. At least the best I can find |

Much of my WWI stuff is GHQ and Panzerschiffe. You can easily add masts with piano wire and the price cannot be beat. They do not have every ship, but many close proxies. Falklands and Coronel were some of the first ships I did and have not gone back yet to add masts. [URL=http://s441.photobucket.com/user/adfilter/media/WWI%20Naval/DSCN0867.jpg.html]

Can I just thank everyone for their help. The orders have gone in for CinC, Panzerschiffe & GHQ for all the ships involved. If Viking Forge gave me some simple method for payment from the UK I'd be thrilled. I'm now preparing the paperwork using Naval Thunder rules. BTW Anyone know where I can get some realistic looking splash markers? |
