Just a quick plug for a new range of 28mm Franco Prussian War figures that will be released in the coming months. Early days yet but we have updated our blog with some WIP's. footsoreminiatures.blogspot.com More to come in the coming weeks. The range will be sculpted by Bill Thornhill (Musketeer Miniatures) and will be made in the US. Please feel free to follow us on our blog and facebook page. |

The figures look great! Congratulations and good luck to your venture. Hal |

Good looking figures. I could see that french officer leading some ACW Zouaves as well. |

Plug away these are looking great, Bill's work will have no peers, I'm not a big fan of FPW but as quasi-imagination units for Gaslight or the like I can see me with a few units (my excuse for getting figures I like without having to pretend I'm full in to the period 8-D). Good luck Guys. |

It's at this point that one traditionally asks if these are compatible with Foundry?!! |
FootsoreMins | 29 Jan 2014 2:54 p.m. PST |
As they are 28mm probably not. Depends on what you can live with. |

Ok sculpting is fine but please choose others reference material than Osprey. Some details are unclear or wrong from the start: what does he wears on his head ? The kepi looks like a flattened forage cap. This officer does not wear a revoler holser ? And by God: what are these trousers and these gaiters on the private green ? They were never as baggy as that: the trousers look like zouave ones. It is pity that once again historical researches are not made more seriously: I will wait the other range I have heard about that will appear by Christmas to complete my Hellion Prussian. |
FootsoreMins | 31 Jan 2014 6:45 a.m. PST |
Well the Kepi is taken from a number of photos that show them to flatten down with wear, so its pretty spot on. We can't be certain that every officer carried a pistol and for a bit of variety I thought I'd do one without. Its all about my own personal interpretation of the period, as it is with every sculptor. We realize we aren't going to please everyone, so really its more about pleasing ourselves and hoping people like what we've done :) |

Nice minis FootsoreMins !! Hey awminis what about this new range for Christmas ? Where did you saw that ? |
mashrewba | 31 Jan 2014 11:04 a.m. PST |
Nice rant about sizes -what is this -the second coming or just an exercise is ing off potential customers -smiley bloody face
I do get that you're not replicating anyones range which isn't really why people ask about Foundry's 28mm range. I'd just like to add units of your figs to my armies but not if they are humungus. Now the Sikh Wars stuff -that really was tiny
|
FootsoreMins | 31 Jan 2014 1:29 p.m. PST |
Lol! Yes I know what you mean. They'll be 28mm foot to eye, so if that's what you've got already they'll be fine imho. |
mashrewba | 01 Feb 2014 4:14 a.m. PST |
I'm sure they'll be fine -I like them |
Beaumap | 04 Feb 2014 3:31 p.m. PST |
Not for me I'm afraid. Commercial suicide too IMHO. Lovely sculpting though, as one would expect from Bill. |
awminis | 05 Feb 2014 9:05 a.m. PST |
Beauchamp: totally agree with you but because they seem poorly researched (the answer above is a joke imo). On their blog the wip french infantryman trousers is simply wrong and the shape of the prussian helmet is weird. Tsushima: I have read Alan Marsh was going to make Imperial french and Prussian Cavalry from Christmas but not for Hellion nor North Star so wait and see This war deserves a great range and there are som any references and pictures that I think it is a shame not to make the work. |

I'm honored that of the 11 comments that both awminis and Beaumap have made between them over the past few years my little project has stirred them to make more. I look forward to more of your constructive comments as the year goes on :) |

Of course we may be overlooking the fact that people could be encouraged into a new period by nicely sculpted figures. I admit that some of these people may not already have a MASSIVE army of Foundry persons. |
FootsoreMins | 05 Feb 2014 11:34 a.m. PST |
That's certainly what we are aiming at mashrewba :) |

aw, I share your caution when it comes to using Osprey as a "sole" reference source, but I think you are being a bit harsh in your criticism. The kepi looks pretty good to me, and very close to period examples which have come up for auction in the last year or so (Hermann Historica's auction website if you are interested). It also matches well with representations in Detaille and de Neuville's paintings. The lignard's trouser leg is pretty difficult to judge without his other leg, greatcoat and equipment, but you may be right. The Prussian helmet looks like a work in progress, and I am sure the wire 'spike' will be properly modelled in the final version. The body of the helmet seems to me to be a reasonable representation of the M1867. Still, it is 'eye of the beholder' stuff, I think. Mollinary |

Most of my reference material is coming from photos and contemporary artwork rather than the Osprey series of books, although they are useful also :) |

Another French officer done. More command on the way :)

Excellent work Bill, see you at Historicon :-) |

Glad to see a real 28mm range. I think Foundry is too small. The figures look good to me. Natural poses. Keep up the good work. I hope when you get to the Imperial Guard, you will produce either a figure or an alternate head wearing the bearskin (I know that drives some people batty!)
.I just love those figures. |
mashrewba | 30 Jun 2014 3:43 a.m. PST |
I think if you do the Imperial Guard you should take a lead from the Perrys Young Guard figs and have them all sitting down waiting
I wonder how you get on running in a bear skin or taking up a prone firing position -that would be an interesting unit with all the hats on the floor!! :) |

Are this range available for purchase? If so how? |
GDrover | 19 Aug 2014 4:07 p.m. PST |
I saw these at Historicon and REALLY liked them. I have a mess of Helion/ Northstar Prussians and no French, so I am very eager to augment my Prussians/ Allies, and get a French army in full. As for scale, I compared some Foundry with the Helion line a while back and rejected them as too small. The Footsore guys were nice enough to give me a sample French Infantryman at Historicon and it fits with Helion BRILLIANTLY! Almost a perfect match. |

so… any update on availability? |

There is still not "order page" with FPW minis listed for sale and the last comment was middle of August. Are things still going forward? |
