Very well done review. It seems PSC have listened and corrected the inaccurate canteens that were a drawback on their 1/72 Late War British Infantry set.

Now of they did an EW version with Vickers and atr plus mortars on a separate pack…….just sayin

Great review – thanks.

Just received my box yesterday and I have to say I am very, very impressed with these! I'm not much of a rivet counter when it comes to WW2, so can live with the minor errors that you detail. The thing about these that really makes them a winner are the realistic, yet dynamic poses.

As for the lack of leather jerkins, weren't these mainly reserved for gunners, sappers and the like?

Great review. I'm impressed with your uniform/equipment knowledge.

How well will the round bases on the figures plug into the holes on Battlefront stands?

Good stuff -- going to fill out my FOW British forces with a box of these guys.

Justin, your reviews are quite good and I appreciate how fair and even handed you are with them. Plus you are not afraid of gently taking someone to task for somewhat shoddy work (as in the Eureka buildings one). Keep up the superb work!

Did you used to do reviews under another title?

Lordgoober29 Jan 2014 10:45 a.m. PST

yeah. I'm planning on getting a box of these if they show up at my FLGS. It will let me do my Canadians decently.

@ Nazrat – Thanks and no, these are my first attempt at reviews. I try to be even-handed, no point in being overly negative. Glad you enjoy them :)

I wonder if PSC plans to rework they German Infantry set – it would be great :)

Hi, I've just bought some of these, as I am getting back into wargaming after a long break, plus other PSC models and figures. Yes, I am that rare beast, a woman wargamer.

I would like some advice about primer/basecoat. Has anyone used Halfords khaki spray on PSC plastics? What do you think about this as a base colour for British infantry?

JustinModelDads04 Apr 2014 12:34 p.m. PST

Hi CaroleF – I'd recommend PSC's undercoat spray. We did a review here: link

Thanks!

If you're painting 15mm for the first time, I like blocking in the base colors and then giving a muddy brown wash. No fancy shade/highlight stuff, just a colored primer spray and then pick out details, follow it up with a wash of color roughly equivalent to Devlan Mud (a Citadel color from the previous generation of paints. IIRC, Army Painter "Strong Tone" is equivalent).

CaroleF06 Apr 2014 4:07 a.m. PST

Thanks for the advice, Lion.

I have painted a few 15mm figures in the past, some Seven Years War ones for an army that never ended up getting finished a long time ago, but most of my painting has been on 1/72 scale figures and Games Workshop ones.

I was thinking about doing what you suggest, so a bit of confirmation is good news.

I am also thinking about varnish. I have some Humbrol matte enamel spray around somewhere, but I am not sure it will be the best choice for acrylic paints.

CaroleF I tend to go for a gloss, tough varnish coat and then use a coat of testors dullcoat to remove the shine. My chaps are individualy based though and get handled alot.

Bob Runnicles07 Apr 2014 6:25 a.m. PST

I also favor the gloss varnish first for protection, then a matt varnish coat to dull down the gloss. Really helps protect the paint jobs.

LukeR7807 Apr 2014 7:26 a.m. PST

I find Army Painter "Strong Tone" to be far too dark for 15mm infantry and get much better results with "Soft Tone".

Haqlfords Khaki is much to light for British Infanty. I've not tried the PSC or Bolt Action sprays but I got good results with Humbrol "Dark Brown" spray on my British infantry.

madaxeman07 Apr 2014 9:43 a.m. PST

I used the Halfords spray too, and it's way too pale. I've ended up adding 2 layers of Windsor and Newton Peat Brown ink, then a mid- tone army painter coat to make them look "right"
