Our group had its annual wargaming weekend on the first weekend of January after the new year. This year it was Borodino in the biggest game we've put on yet in terms of table size and number of figures.

A rough tally was made with the following numbers:

Infantry – 3147 figures
Cavalry – 963 figures
Generals – 258 figures
Artillery – 1212 guns in approximately 135 batteries

It was a real clash of the titans with a fairly historical result in that no side ended with the upper hand, though Poniatowski and Davout managed to push the Russians away from the southern flank around Utitsa.

The 4 days of the battle are described in my blog:

Superb – in scale and look

Beeker28 Jan 2014 4:54 a.m. PST

Just awesome!

Rosbif – how were the figures moved – particularly in the middle? The battle field appears too deep from the perspective of the images to permit arms-length movement of the units.

.. again.. awesome!

Very well done. 28mm figures?

I'll support the "sublime madness" comment. Of course, in my country, madmen are considered holy… :)

Cheers all! It was a real team effort which took roughly 18 months to pull together.

@Beeker – The tables are modular with the two outer tables on either side on castors so that they can be moved as the action passes into the centre. If you look at the first picture in the lower left foreground, you can see the joins betwen tables, and in the right background, there's a table which is still pushed against the shed wall.

@TPWin15mm – The majority of figures were 28mm, Front Rank being the brand of choice, but there were quite a few units comprising Minifig and Hinchcliffe 25mm, not to mention my IV Corps made of plastic and metal 1/72nd figures.

@leGQG – We use a home-brew set of rules called 'Cold Steel'. The rules and charts are available from links under the header of my blog.

Thanks Rosbif

Yes I noticed that they are modular but saw that there were a fair number of stands and figures placed right on the joins. However, this now makes sense with the middle table being stationary and immobile.

I will indeed have to attempt this but on a smaller scale.

Excellent inspiration!

Looking forward to your next AAR!

Cheers!
