Hello guys, I have just started painting some Soviet cold war stuff but I am having trouble getting the right color green.
I find the highlight too bright, I used Vallejo German Fieldgrey WWII as a base (when I tested it out before it looked better then all the other colors of green I had..) But the highlight (of 60% German Fieldgrey WWII and 40% Bonewhite, my usual highlight recipe) has gotten way too bright. Do you guys have any suggestions on Vallejo colors to use for Soviet green? More stuff on my blog: moedbeleidentrouw.blogspot.nl |

The old Russian Green 894 has recently been renamed Camouflage Olive Green. It tends to be more the "dark, freshly painted" look. I mix it with a bit of Russian Uniform Green 924 for faded vehicles that have been in service a while. |

Napoleonic French artillery green – might not be totally accurate admittedly but "looks right" |

I think the non camo one looks closer, the other looks a little too olive to me. |

I tend to use Humbrol 114, but Humbrol stopped making that colour a few years ago so I'm down to my last tin. Humbrol 117 or 86 is a good match. Put some mud on them and they look even better. My Sovs:

I use quite a bright green for mine as I find the washes and weathering dulls it a bit. Its by Gunze (Mr hobby) and called RLM 82 Light Green (H422). Eg.

BattlerBritain, I see you are using the WaW system for micro armor as well. I got the mats from Hotz and use that for my games. How do you deal with measurements? |

While my forces are 3mm instead of 6mm, I have always taken the approach that the smaller you go, the lighter your color should be. I use the Vallejo Russian green, then I use a Future/ink mix for darker areas. I then go with a 2 parts Russian green and 1 part 1, then followed by 1 part Russian green to 1 part 1 for the highlights
