Hi Just a quick questions I've recently started painting 6mm adler napoleonics wich I then sale on eBay, But am not to sure what I should be charging I paint to a very high standard and generally get 70p per infantry 85p command and £1.30 GBP mounted. just wanted to no if this sounds about right, or should I charge more? I have some pics in the napoleonic gallery under adler 6mm scots greys. advice on this would be welcome as these figures take a long time to paint although I do enjoy the process also I have no idea what I should charge for foot and horse artillery help on this would be appreciated. Thankyou in advance |

You seem to have missed a link to your website (and a lot of punctuation) so we can't see the work you have done. Without that it is rather difficult to suggest an appropriate price. Having said that, for 6mm I find that there will almost always be someone who will pay for high quality work, even if it is well over what others say they would pay. There is work at all quality levels and it is just a matter of finding it. |

Sorry about the punctuation writing is not a strong point of mine, I don't have a website but have added a pic here to help Pic 1 nearly complete just some toning washes and final touch up. Pic 2 complete and based as sample.

Adlers do take a detailed paint job well and you seem to have made the most of the figures. Quality is near the top of the range I've seen on offer so you should be able to get top prices. Starting out with the prices you suggest shouldn't be a problem but review them regularly and adjust (hopefully upwards) in the light of sales. Selling on e-bay may not get the best income (thanks to fees etc) but it does at least get you a good deal of exposure. In my experience commission painting is the better way to use your skills and maximise your income. When people are getting exactly what they ask for then they are usually prepared to pay more. I also find it a much less stressful way of making an income from painting. I'd say having at least a blog of your own is essential (and there are plenty of free options out there) – you need a presence on the Internet in this day and age, even a facebook page would do I suppose. If writing isn't a stong point then keep captions and descriptions short and to the point so that it doesn't detract from your work – which is good. |

The price is right for your level of painting. One thing to note is that horses really don't require the same level of skill and I appreciate that you reflect that in your pricing. Unless dealing with barding or other extra details, horses are actually quite a bit easier and faster to paint in this size. By the way, I paid quite a bit for some Ros Napoleonics painted and bases to a high standard as well. Not as much as yours but then again, Adler are far superior in detail although they are also closer to 8mm than 6mm. Great paint jobs. Really love your painting style for this scale/size. |

Hey, Your prices seem fair for the quality on offer. 6mm to that standard is definitely a niche market, I doubt you will get many orders but the ones you do will be well paid. I would think a lot of the work you would get would be from repeat clients so it may be worth collecting email addresses from clients you have a forming a news letter from that, sending it out every couple of weeks with a few photos of work in progress. A blog is a good idea as well blogger.com is a popular and easy site to use. Check out my site – marchingincolour.blogspot.co.uk I would be more than happy to help you with layout and style etc if you need it. Just drop me an email. Chris |

Thankyou again for the replys, I might take you up on that offer Chris vey kind of you. I find horses harder paint then the figures might be becouse I still try and blend the colours on them and at 6mm it is very time consuming I use anything upto 4 layers on horses. These greys are a particularly slow process should proberly drop it to 2 layers but I wouldant be happy with them. Cheers Richard |
