I spent some time over the long 3-day weekend painting a battalion of the Saxon Leib Garde, using Minden Miniatures 1/56 scale figures as Saxon stand ins. I know that that the Leib Garde actually all wore mitres, instead of the tricorns shown in the pictures. However, since this unit is destined for service in the fictional army of Hesse Seewald, the head gear doesn't really matter. I just painted this regiment because I liked the color combinations and wanted to see how they would look once painted.

Which army did they serve? I can't find this unit in any of the 7YW wiki pages on Saxons, not saxons in French service or Prussian service.

Their service would have been short lived as they, along with most of the Saxon army, surrendered to the Prussians at Pirna in 1756. Had they escaped, in theory they might have fought with the Austrians.

Many of the Saxon infantry were forced to serve in the Prussian army, but most of these troops eventually deserted and reconstituted their regiments in the service of the French army, fighting in western Germany. You should be able to find Saxon regiments listed in an order of battle for Bergen, IIRC.

Great looking unit, Fritz!

The whole second line of one wing (left?)of the "French" army at Minden was Saxon infantry, as I recall.

Also, Saxon chevauleger (light cavalry) regiments (3? 4?) served with the Austrians, as well as 2? lancer regiments. They were in many actions against the Prussians.

Yes GdParis is correct. The Saxon cavalry played a key role in the Austrian victory at Kolin in 1757, allegedly shouting "this is for Striegau!"as they ran over the Prussian infantry around Krechor. Striegau is the name that the Saxons gave to Hohenfriedburg, at which battle the victorious Prussian cavalry allegedly gave no quarter to the defeated Sxon cavalry. Revenge is a dish best served cold, apparently. grin

Now there's a fine looking unit. Well done, Alte Fritz.

Confess!!! You Are Employing Undiscolsed Cheap Labour!!! (Your Kids?) Some little slave locked in your drawer? Now that is immoral and poor sportsmanship.
3 days! Hah!

My yesterday's finished paint job of about 30 Grenadiers Royaux took me a week of hard work. And its only flats. Only about a quarter of your 3-D miniature surface to be covered?!? Well, I had a lot more of button and lace to do. And I paint my flags myself. I don't by them from elsewhere.

As said, very nice work.

Cheers,
Christian
