Hi, I am interested in 3d printing tank parts in 20 mm- 1/72 scale and molding and casting. I also want to know what kind of software people use, preferably free
And how do you scale up a CAD/ 3d file? Can somebody give me advice? Thanks, Miniature United 7 |

Hi, If you haven't already modeled the parts, try Sketchup sketchup.com which is a good free modeling program. To convert your files to the correct format (STL in most cases) and repair them if necessary, use Meshlab meshlab.sourceforge.net which is also free. To scale up your STLs, use Netfabb Basic netfabb.com/basic.php which is a free program that also can repair files as well. |

Blender is a popular free program. It needs some UI fixes to work like the other 3d editing suites but other than that I've heard good things about it. |

Sketchup also has a plugin that allows it to export directly to STL files. MU7, everything I've done has been with the free version of Sketchup, so you can get an idea of what it can do (keep in mind, I'm still a novice at this): link |
