I just watched the first episode, looks interesting. Like Spartacus, period entertainment, and porn.

I loved Spartacus; I'll have to wait for the DVDs/Bluray for this.

I'm bummed. We were getting Starz and Encore for free from our cable provider until we got the "because of increasing costs…" letter last month. So no Black Sails.

I wish I could afford Starz.

Oh well, perhaps DVDs, and/or Netflix will have to do. Hope they don't delay the release to the secondary markets for too long.

From the previews I've seen, it looks superb.

Got to see the first episode for free. I went in with low expectations but found that, overall, it was done well. They got a number of aspects of pirate life right, brought in factual pirates that went with the time period. Acting was good, although I really don't buy the guy they have protraying Long John Silver. If I had Starz I would watch the show.

Just saw that the DVDs will be available for pre-order, from Walmart, starting January 28th, so we won't have to wait long, I suspect.

No word on the release date, and the clerk didn't know anything about the cost either, so I'll have to check out their website.

From what I've seen of the preview, the filming location, and sets look simply stunning, and a bit more accurate than Pirates of the Caribbean, as they should.

Cool show…ships are all too big, most pirates ran sloops and brigantines, not full 3-masters, and that initiation scene with John Silver and the pirate harem…nice…not sure any such beauties could be found within a few thousand miles of a pirate den, but very easy on the eye…

I am hoping my local library system obtains it someday.

I saw Captain Phillips for the first time last night.

That was a pretty good pirate movie.
