Hi all, Does anyone have any images/sources as to what the type of rifle carried by the French artilleryman was? I can't get a good look at it in the pictures I have, but it seems different from the Chassepot carried by the infantry. Also, any other information about the French artillery (foot and horse)O would be appreciated. I am just starting to sculpt these figures and need a few more details on them. Kind regards, Jon |

I recall it was the cavalry version of the Chassepot. At least in the painting of Von Bredows Death Ride, that's what the French Artillery had |

I just looked in an Osprey book for the French in the FPW and they state that in addition to the Chassepot Infantry pattern rifle, there were also artillery, gendarme and cavalry models, but the artillery model did not come fully into service until 1873. I would think that a Carbine style rifle would give you the right look. Joe |

Hi vtsaogames, My brother and I sculpted the Old Glory 15mm Franco-Prussian line. These figures are 28mm. I am planning on releasing French and Prussian line along with French and Prussian artillery crews as soon as I can arrange to get them molded and cast. Bavarians, French Chasseurs a'pied, and Prussian Jaegers are begun as well. Kind regards! |

seem's that were still in service the mousqueton d'artillerie modele 1829 Tbis ( modified 1859) (percussion, black powder muzzle loading ) . the chassepot version seem's issued in 1871-1872 so no chasspot in the imperial phase link if you plan horse artillerie, they were issued with a Sabre d'artillerie modèle1829 and a pistolet de cavalerie , and no mousqueton . the armement of the french army in 1870-1871 is a problem french chassepot old percussion guns modified as breach loaders percussion muzzle loading rifles imported american sharps, remington, springfield, spencer etc
