Yesterday I decided to order a copy of General de Brigade Deluxe Edition from Caliver Books. I ordered and paid for this item yesterday at lunchtime. This morning the book arrived. How is that for quality service? I'm thoroughly impressed. And the rulebook is lovely as well. Packed full of great pictures, full colour throughout. I also recently bought Osprey's Fields of Glory Napoleonic rules, and although that also was a great looking book, it didn't inspire me at all. I just need the kids and wife to off for a while to let me read GdB, as its not easy to get to grips with a new ruleset while Scooby Doo is playing in the background. Colin |

LOL hope its the B off kind of thing and not the F off one , Colin. Please give us your views on the deluxe version of GdeB rules as I have no view on them having played L'Aigle Nap rules for some time but looking for something else less complicated. Cheers |

Yes, I agree plenty of eye candy photos in colour that really do inspire one to war game. My group and I have used the deluxe rules for about 18 months and are very satisfied. I have used Shako (a bit too simplistic for me IMHO) and Battles for Empire and the like (too complex and tedious) GdeB is a nice balance between realism and fast play. Most importantly GdeB has an active blog that clarifies rule play when required. The rules author, David Brown, frequently provides clarification and suggestions to many questions. You made a good choice. Have a good read and enjoy. |

Hi Colin, Second what IronDuke596 says. I've been very happily using them for a couple of years and there's enough complexity to hold your interest with the odd surprise to add interest. Just as important is the rules are realistic and well balanced. Cheers, Paul |

I love Scooby Doo – In fact that's when I read my rules in a different part of the house ;) GdB are a great set of rules for a great Napoleonic wargame! |

I would have got away with it as well – if it wasn't for you pesky wargamers :-) GdB rocks |

Colin, Another vote for GdB Deluxe from me. Although I seem to paint figures (intermittently) rather than fight wargames! I'd recommend the scenario books too – there are some very good ideas in them. |

LOL. It certainly wasn't a F off to the wife and kids. This is the first set of Nap rules I've bought since I had Napoleons Battles (which I liked but has been "lost" when I moved from Glasgow to Perth) and I am liking them. I've started having a read through the rules and got as far as the basing and Divisional/Brigade General set up. I much prefer this system to the FoGN regimental set up as I wanted my Regiments to be represented by three Brigades rather than one unit = a regiment. Luckily GdB gives "recommended" basing that is pretty close to how I've been basing my 15mm figures, though I may have to both close order and skirmish order figure to swap out when necessary. I'll post a full review on my blog when I get further into the book. |
