They are not so historical nor so fantasy. They are inspired more from adventure movies or pulp literature than military history books. I simple call them "pulp (war)games", but I don't know how they are commonly named. In the last period I have a growimg interest in these games, so I'm looking for any kind of sources and get in contact with people who play this king of games, just to share ideas and opinions |

Gordon from Taskforce Productions just released a set of rules called "We Can Be Heroes". It's along the lines of what you are talking about. You have a Hero and Sidekicks and they are able to do "extraordinary" things if the dice go their way. It is very much like an action movie ruleset. You can get his rules from taskforceproductions.com It's really fun and adaptable to a number of situations. I'm putting together a scenario with a Delta Force team going into a mall to save civilians from a horde of Zombies. Previously, I just used it for WWII scenarios, but I think I can make it all work. |

How similar is WCBH to Baptism of Fire? Any relationship in mechanics? |

Savage Worlds (both the RPG and minis game) is built around the same concept. You've got Wild Cards (heroes) and Extras (grunts). The system doesn't work well for my style of RP, but it works great as a minis system. |

You can see my game on the front page today so I won't tout it here. But there are a lot of different rules sets available.. Besides those mentioned, there are also Rugged Adventures from Pulp Figures and Astonishing Tales from And That's the Way it Was. Figures come from Copplestone, Pulp Figures, Foundry (if the OFM isn't looking), and quite a few others. There is no "pulp" message board yet (we're still waiting Bill!) but hopefully soon there will be one dedicated to the genre. Welcome to the fun! Richard A. Johnson Rattrap Productions |

Hi Jizbrand, Sorry, I can't answer about WCBH Vs BoF. I haven't played BoF. I read the rule book ages ago, but have no real experience to formulate an answer. Anyone else maybe? |

"To Be Continued... by GASLIGHT" is a couple days away from heading to the publisher. TBCbyG is a rules supplement for fighting games in the Pulp Era, based on the popular GASLIGHT system. Games, called Episodes, are linked togheter to form twelve-episode serials in the tradtion of the great movie serials of the 1930s and 40s. It is also good for recreating games based on pulp lituature, and the adventure TV serials and B-movies from the 1950. |

I forgot to mention, if you are looking for sources and want to get in contact with people who play this king of games, you might want to join the GASLIGHTrules Yahoo group. The friendly and helpful members there frequently discuss Pulp topics, and many of them already use the Basic GASLIGHT rules set to run Pulp games. |

Look for the August and October issues of Wargames Illustrated, in which Bob Murch and Howard Whitehouse write separate, unrelated articles about the world of pulp. Since they both mention one another, it's clearly some sort of conspiracy. You'll find all sorts of references to books, rules, figures, movies, as well as general inspiration and the phone number for a showgirl called 'Rita' in Bay City. |
