I added some more detail shots of the Alamo Diorama I made, that was published in Wargames Illustrated issue 310. Have not gamed in awhile, been building a corvette model. Got a new phone with a great camera and took some close up shots of the battle.

You know, after some time now, I've arrived at a confused point of not knowing whether to adulate you, despise you, or simply sit back in humiliated despair.

I've always appreciated the resolve with which you seem to approach everything in you life…be it the jousting, weapons arts, or modeling and mini-painting, you never seem to hesitate but jump right in and say "why not just do it?".

There's certainly a lesson in there for me and I appreciate the constant inspiration your blog provides…I lurk there with regularity. Do keep posting this stuff.

Cheers and Carry On!

Words fail, that is amazing!

Longshot,
Thanks! I appreciate that. I just try to keep my life interesting as I can. I have found, if you want something bad enough, you can find away. On most things anyway.

I have cleared off my table, took me about 6 hours to remove the city of Carthage off my table…planning my next game soon…so many games, what to play next is always a challenge.

Tom From Texas

And Thanks to all!

Remember the Alamo!!!

Awe inspiring!

Your display is better than the one sitting in the Alamo. Perhaps I will go down there this weekend and redirect everyone to your blog. Very cool.

That is so nice it is almost heretical to turn it into a coffee table. I bet that will start some conversations when company comes.

leidang15 Jan 2014 12:26 a.m. PST

That is awesome… but I don't think I could consign my men to that sort of static existence. My troops need to march to glory!

snurl115 Jan 2014 12:32 a.m. PST

Very nice work.

panzerCDR15 Jan 2014 6:42 a.m. PST

Wow! Very nice and inspiring! "Everything is BIG in Texas!" Your efforts easily make my minor addictions look trivial. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to all, I had sent the historian of the Alamo, there in SA a few photos, and he said it was very nice as well, which made my day. I have been facinated with Alamo since 1976 when I first saw the old 54mm diorama they had in the Long Barracks (remains). I think in the 80's sometime they made the one that is in the gift shop. They made it using the old Airfix plastics figures and stuff. I also made one in 1/72 scale but only a 1/4 of the battle and it was mainly modeled after the John Wayne version, which afterwards I realized was not accurate.

Thanks for all the great compliments.

Leidang…I actually have another Alamo and another set of figures to game with for the Alamo battle. But I know what you mean exactly.

Before I got into wargaming I made dioramas only, but couldnt stand the fact that after I painted them, and glued them down, that was it. So Wargaming gave me best of both worlds.

Cheers,
Tom

I think I will be playing an Alamo game soon!!!

Hey Tom! Great stuff! I see you hail from my former neck of the woods (I graduated form Round Rock H.S.). Interestingly enough, I think my first visit to the Alamo was at about the same time you visited. I live here in San Antonio and have not been in a few years. I am a bit of a curmudgeon and wish that the Daughters still ran the place. To think that it took a private organization to save the darn thing in the first place when the state ignored it and have now taken it over is a bit shameful.

Do you know Mark McKenzie or Rod Kaufman?

Disco Joe15 Jan 2014 9:43 a.m. PST

That is absolutely fabulous. Excellent job.

Ancientsgamer- I do not know either of those people. I was raised in Liberty Hill, and move to RR after I came home from the Marines.

I read a story about the whole DOTR and how it all came about, and how two women fought over the possesion of the Alamo when it all came down to it.

I want to see your decorator trying to match fabric and paint to colors of Mexican turnbacks and musket smoke!

WarWizard15 Jan 2014 7:20 p.m. PST

These new photos are really great. I still can't believe your did this in so little time to such a quality degree!
You rock! I can never get enough of Alamo dioramas. Thanks!

darclegion20 Jan 2014 3:03 p.m. PST

Well, lets just say…my blood was boiling for the Alamo defenders that died for Texas…and I wanted to make my own shrine in salute to them all!!!! I had some help from my friends and a very nice painter at ECA Miniatures. Who I highly recommend if you want some nice paint jobs for a honest fair price. I am a painter, believe me…I paint like its an addiction…but I hired some help to make it happen faster, so I could relax and get down to it. Part of the reason I could put it together so fast. All in the name of Texas.

Excellent work!

cavcrazy05 Feb 2014 9:43 a.m. PST

Why did you do this to me?
I'm trying to stay in one scale and people like you go and make amazing things in a scale that I don't game or paint….now I'm thinking that maybe I could/should do something in 15mm.
Just know that if this gets me in trouble with the wife, I'm showing her your post.

Volunteer Fezian19 Feb 2014 7:54 p.m. PST

Tom is certainly one of the most talented dioramists around!

darclegion20 Mar 2014 9:45 a.m. PST

Thank you, but that like I said I had help as well. I appreciate that. But believe me…there are extremly way better out there. I am just a proud Texan. Maybe the most talented on my street block or something..haha.
