Check out Brooklyn Wargaming for my first play through 1775: Rebellion from this past weekend at Metropolitan Wargamers in Brooklyn, NY…

That does look interesting. I quite fancy giving the game a try. Thanks for posting.

This is a fun game--moreso than 1812: The Invasion of Canada.

Hi Kimber,

This game has sorely tempted me, but I'm trying to be realistic about my board game purchases. For example, can I expect to play friends to give a new game a try, does it work solitaire, etc.?

The fact that 1775: Rebellion suits multiple players is encouraging.

Hey Jeff,

I don't have any experience solo gaming, so it would be hard for me to speak to the solo potential of 1775. As with the poster above, the game does seem to be more satisfying than 1812 with those who have played both.

1775 can play fast (under an hour) and is quick to learn but fascinating to figure out longer term. My experience so far has been 2-on-2 but I really want to try a 1-on-1 game. Lots of good flavor to the game with cards and alliances -- easily a new favorite of mine.

I really enjoy this game.
So much that I created a 'Large' version that would allow me to use 28mm painted miniatures instead of cubes:

Reminds me of the old Avalon Hill game "1776".

GDrover,

You beat me to it. laugh

An excellent idea. I now know I need the game. thumbs up

Regarding you getting the board made to 6', do you think that was a one off or would the company consider other requests? Thanks.

Great with minis -- I've seen a few homebrewed versions online with minis at different scales.

We played that game several times. It is a very good game and you can play it easely in an evening. The version with the miniatures surely is even much more fantastique.

GDrover,

For years I have been wanting to do the very same thing you have done but with Avalon Hill's "Britannia" game. I have seen it done with "Third Reich" and "Circus Maximus" and now this game.

Any suggestions and how I can make a larger map? I guess I need to go to a graphic artist. I doubt I can get data file for this old game that I love to play.

I used Photoshop and Corel Draw to enlarge Circus Maximus. Photoshop is really easy. It has a resize wizard.

The rules are simple enough I can play it with my elementary school aged son.

I used tricorn hat figures from the 18th century Risk set for the figures. They are not as sharp as the painted 28mm figures, but add a little more visual interest and work right out of the box with the board that comes with the game. If I had more time I would be tempted to do a simple paint on them.

I hope to use this game as a campaign to generate miniatures battles. Has anyone taken a stab at converting the battles in the game to minatures battles? The Battle dice in the game seem to give a certain type of result – retreats or destruction. I'm sure it can be done – but I have not gotten to it. Perhaps a more ambitious soul out there has taken a stab. Care to share?

bcminiatures,
You could make it work, but I think you would have an easier time and probably a more accurate game using something like Avalon Hill's 1776 or even Columbia Game's Liberty. Rebellion 1775 does have a nice looking map, but it has certain Risk like qualities. That makes it fun, but not necessarily the best platform for a miniatures battle campaign. If you do come up with something for it, please share. :)

Wilderness Wars (the boardgame) might be perfect for a campaign, regretfully it is FIW and the AWI versions We the People and Washington's Wars are more abstract. Still any of them could be converted also.

I suppose it depends on how nitty gritty you want to get.
