FIGURES
Want another use for your Firefly "Reavers" or your other Post Apocalyptic raiders? At least for the ones in coats?
Then check out the premise of the 2013 Laurence Fishburne film "The Colony". Or better yet, watch the movie.

TERRAIN
Would even you bother with icy terrain for surface action, or would you go solely with corridors and rooms of the below-ground industrial facilities (Necromunda-style* terrain)?

Thoughts?

I thought it was a terrible movie

Yes, but could the premise work as a game?
And would it make for interesting Post Apocalyptic raids by "Reaver" types?

Combatants:
- "Reavers";
- Colony faction 1 (the survival of the fittest team); and
- Colony faction 2 (the ones still clinging to civilized values)

Conditions:
- Brutal weather and deadly obstacles above;
- Fear of a potential epidemic;
- Dwindling food and other essential supplies; and
- Communication difficulties with other scattered enclaves

And, by "brutal weather" I mean "Snowball Earth" conditions:

It's pure coincidence but I am doing something similar with my Scavenge Skirmish Survive project. At the moment the rules focus on the survivors out in the snow but the next rules release includes optional infected and troopers, for which we have already started to release minis.

The building of a multi level complex was started quite some time (years …. It's slow progress) ago, though it's above ground and not as big as those featured in your links.

Lots of game pics here

For cold conditions wouldn't the Scavenge, Skirmish, Survivor minis do the job? There have been several posts on here from the chap (sorry old boy can't remember your name…) showing he minis in winter furs etc, I have other minis bit can't remember the ranges they are from at present…

Ha! And there he is!

Cacique Caribe13 Jan 2014 12:25 p.m. PST

Are they 15mm?

28mm they are, not 15mm, is it 15mm you want?

miniatureMOJO13 Jan 2014 12:40 p.m. PST

I am embarrassed CC: I completely missed the reference to 15mm…..

Mind, whatever the scale I think the concept works and is very gameable. I'd do 15mm but my eyes just about cope with 28s!

The only thing against the smaller scale is room size, especially height. My table buildings (houses, shops, etc as well as the complex) have been designed with finger access in mind. At 15mm I suspect you'd still need buildings with 28mm clearance if you wanted to get your hand inside.

Don't Khurasan do some 15mm The Thing type minis?

Ps: thanks Ark3nubis for remembering us :-)

Forgot to say earlier, the comic story Winterworld also has loads of great ideas.

If enough frozen undersea methane deposits thaw out and release enough methane into the atmosphere, one spark and we could have a nuclear winter effect that'll turn the Earth into a snowball for a few thousand years.
Then we can play for real!

MiniatureMOJO,

Winterworld really looks interesting!

Thanks,

According to the film, the "Snowball Earth" event came about as a result of human attempts to prevent Global Warming by using "weather stations".

I hope that's not where these efforts are headed:

Freezing due to abrupt changes in sea currents seems more likely, though that may not result in a true "Snowball Earth".

These Eureka Chechens could work as survivors on many other "Colonies", perhaps as displaced populations migrate down into the Middle East, Eastern Europe and North Africa right?

I wonder how difficult it would be to add fur-edged hoods to them, so as to make them more Arctic-like? Perhaps easier if done with the hood pulled back, as if the existing fur collar was the edge of the hood, right?

Thoughts?

PS. I didn't know that the underground shots of the cannibal colony were taken at a NORAD site:
