How can a Trailer have SPOILERS? link It looks great, except for the sword twirling and acrobatics in the Mountain's duel with the Red Viper. Gack, I hate sword twirling. And who is the new Lannister? The young dude giving advice to Joffrey? Too young to be Kevan. Doubtless I will find out soon enough. |

Trailer looks good. Might have caught a glimpse of Stannis charging the wildlings. Generic costumes makes it hard to tell. But least HBO finally sprang for some horses (with riders). Doubt we'll get any mammoths though. (and yes Oblivion is under- rated – not a bat SF film) TomT |

Speaking of "major book events"
I saw Theon Greyjoy in armor. THAT is not in the books at this point, nor is his sister rowing to his rescue. One benefit of this could be the elimination of the tedious Iron Islands plot digressions. By all means, kill off Balon. The "mystery" of the identity of the Hooded Man is now, at least for the HBO version, irrelevant. Who is the guy having has hand wound tended to? Gendry? Again, not in the books. So, it seems that we who have read the books can babble on all we want, without spilling the beans on SPOILERS. Well, maybe there are one or two

Going back and "studying" it more
That's Jaime getting his new golden hand fitted. He looks different. More serious. Qyburn is creepy looking even in that brief scene. And Ser Alliser is back! One of my favorite bad guys! Can't wait. |

Yup, he is being to understand just what being a Kingsguard is all about. I think we will survive the books – which not a easy thing to do and will end up as one of the greatest Kingsguard ever. |

I think Jaime always knew what it was to be in the Kingsguard. Then, witnessing the Mad King in action, burning Rickard Stark, Aerys raping his wife
Even such a stalwart as Gerold Hightower told him "Our job is to protect him, not to judge him." Well, Jaime judged him and slew himm saving a half million lives in the process. But damned if he would justify himself to Ned, so he turned bitter. Jaime later said "I joined wanting to be Ser Arthur Dayne, and ended up being the Laughing Knight." His story arc is one of the most interesting, and I can't wait for Book 6 (or season 4). |

I was just discussing the complexities of Jamie's character with my 16 year old son who finally got permission to read Ice and Fire. A good example of a person with a complex internal code but also prone to impulse. Difficult to judge by objective standards and demostrates how heroes and villians are often a question of perspective. The POV technique helps illustrate people's unlimited capacity for self justification. While Jamie has gained some perspective on his own actions we've gained some perspective on him. He also now understands while my Lannister D3H2 (DBA3.0 + HOTT2.0) army has an Jamie as a Hero General figure and Jamie as a mere Knight General figure. TomT |
