Sumerian Chariots in 6mm

Remember back in 2005, when I promised pictures of those Sumerian chariot stands in 6mm?

Hi everyone!

I just completed my first DBA army: Polybian romans.
I have shown some of these miniatures as they were completed before, but now I'm just showing the complete army… hey i'm a new "dad"… i'm entitled to that!

I am working on that very box of Hat Roman infantry myself. Nice looking troops.

HaT Figures do paint up well! Nice job!

Yay, HaT Republican Romans, some of my favourite sets of figures.

Nice job.

I'm not usually a fan of the HaT infantry – I think the Zvezda are much better sculpts – but I've never seen the HaT figures look as good as this! Good painting. Did you use a 'dip' method?

I agree with your blog comments on the attractiveness of doing DBA armies. I've just put off a big project (ironically Polybian Romans) to do some other Classical DBA armies.

Thanks Guys!
Most of the army was speed painted, apart from the velites and some hastati.

I tried three speed painting methods;
First, the future floor finish "magic wash". It turned out too thin, and did practically nothing, except some light black-lining.

then, I tried a simple brown wash with no additional medium, this one turned out too uneven…

lastly I got hold of the army painter dip, which is a pain to work with because it is not water soluble, but I must admit that the results are very good. the coverage is perfect, and it dried rock hard. Of all the methods I used, miniatures painted with the dip seems to be the only one to be chipping resistant…

It has the additional effect of giving a brown hue to everything. I usually hate this effect, but on ancient miniatures, I don't know… it seems to fit!!!

My second army, the gauls, are now published:

Really nice work – great looking bases as well.
