No details as yet. They've just been added to the workbench today.

This might also work for the Fenian Uprising.

These would be great for the Pig War as well (1859-1871)!

I think that they would have shed their red coats fairly quickly after a battle or two. Perhaps they would have adopted khaki or the field grey used later in Afghanistan.

Here's a pic of myself and a friend reenacting a meeting of Confederate and British infantry (the latter wearing NZ Wars-style blue jumper):

During the New Zealand Wars in the 1860s, British infantry adopted the dark blue smock (or 'jumper') instead of the red tunic. More info here: link

for another hypothetical confrontation, these might also stand in for Garnet Wolseley's 1870 Red River Expedition!

In 1870, Colonel Garnet Wolseley led an expedition from Toronto to confront Louis Riel's provisional government the Red River Colony in what is now Manitoba. By the time the expedition arrived at Upper Fort Garry, Riel had vacated the premises, but a possible 'what-if' scenario can be built from Wolseley's expedition facing Riel's métis.

when I first saw these I thought what the ?!!! but the more I think about it I am hooked. Questions, I would have thought the red coats wouldn't last long, how would they perform bearing in mind the last major war was the Crimea, almost Napoleonic in tactics. I know they were based in Canada but if conflict had broken out maybe a force would have landed in the south and actually fought alongside the Confederates ! Great stuff !

In Canada, the North West Mounted Police wore red serge coats pretty much through its history (from 1873 on), although some members were known to wear buckskin or other privately obtained coats for patrol.

Canadian Militia generally wore red coats when called out, including for Ridgeway (and other Fenian raids), the 1870 Red River expedition and the 1885 North West Rebellion. British troops still wore red on campaign in Africa in 1879 for the Anglo-Zulu war, and even on later occasions in the Sudan and India, so I assume that red would have been used in a hypothetical ACW intervention as well, although fading of red coats would be as much of an issue as it was for Wellington's army in Spain!
