When they first came out I purchased a Great War Miniatures A7V and a Mk. IV tank, when was that? 4 or 5 years ago or longer? Either way I decided it was high time to get them assembled and painted, first up is the A7V, which I decided to Christen "Elfriede" after my daughters doberman puppy. When I dug out my book on the A7V it turns out there was an actual "Elfriede", it was tank number 542 and served with the second abteilung, more on this together with details on painting it and more pics can be found on my blog. Very nice. It looks just like a real one. The only surviving one is "parked" outside our local museum. It was captured by WW1 diggers. I drive past it, going to work. |

Saw an article on that one, its been looked after very well and has had all it markings done correctly, called Mephisto 'Devil' in german, with a little red devil symbol on it. A real asset to the museum, well done. Cheers |

Mephisto is now on display in a glass case outside the Museum and is easily accessible from the street. It almost seems hidden away which is a great shame . I haven't seen Mephisto in years but I always make an effort to visit when I am in Brisbane . Standing alongside this thing really put its awesomeness into perspective. If I'm not mistaken the image of "Mephisto" painted on the hull is of a grinning red devil running off carrying a British MkIV under its arm , is it still like that ? cheers Tom |
