Me and a friend played a scenario for Bull Run with the Volley & Bayonet rules. I have written about it on my blog. Please feel free to make a visit. theforlornedice.blogspot.se /Conny |

How did you do the battlefield? It looks like a hand-drawn map? |

1st Bull Run, as Northerners call it, (Murphy lol), is a very interesting battle and can be played in so many different ways. Choose a different approach method other than Mcdowell's and see what happens. I am working up to this battle using 15mm figures. It's a long term project. I am going to contour the battlefield specifically for this game. Still, no one(Blue Moon)makes the 1st Fire Zouaves in 15mm. Or how about the 1st and 2nd Rhode Island in smocks and blanket rolls? Anyway, you could play this scenario over and over with the Condfederates guessing where you will initiate the attack from! |

I've played the V&B Bull Run scenario several times over the years and it gives a tight game each time. The Rebs are swarmed by Yankees early on but then their reinforcements show up. |

One suggestion: before the CSA leaders are on the table, treat units in road column as being under command. Once they deploy, they need to roll dice. |

Well vtsaogames we actually had that discussion during a coffee break the same day that we played. I was the one that suggested that all troops on board for the confederates should be counted as in command until the commands arrived. But since I was commanding the south and was a bit worried that I would be overrun and it felt hopeless, I was thinking that it was me complaining about the unfairness of the scenario :). But I think that you're solution sounds good. The troops coming on the roads can march in and form and after that roll for command as per scenario rules. Not that overpowering. My only sorrow at the moment are that it is so few scenarios to ACW for Volley & Bayonet out there. /Conny |

Have you looked at Keith M's VnB site and the ACW scenario book from 1st edition. There are a lot of scenarios available. Thanks, John |

All scenarios I have played are from Keith Mīs VnB site and I am grateful that he has put the scenarios out there. The ACW book for the 1st edition is out of print and I canīt find it anywhere and since I live in Sweden it is a bit problematic to get hold on it on the second hand market to. I am hoping that they will re-print the book soon, lots of rumors of it but noting solid yet. I have also looked at Altar of Freedom and will test these rules later this year. These rules has a lots of scenarios to do. /Conny |

You can get the ACW book from Old Glory Miniatures fairly cheaply. It is not out of print. link I also have Altar of Freedom. It does look very promising. My problem with VnB is that Frank dismissed having any Command and Control rules for the game. He believes that friction naturally occurs in games. I agree with him when there are 6 players plus. It can readily happen. However, many games have 2-4 players and I think it starts to fall apart in those games. Hth John |
