I have roughly x2 24 man battalions of Warlord Napoleonic French to paint, but I want to paint them as troops other than French

I'm doing the Peninsular War so does anyone have any "interesting" suggestions or ideas?

I've already got two battalion's of Neapolitans so not them please!

I always thought the Regiment Irlandaise in their green uniforms looked neat.

Swiss Neufchatel look great, but maybe not right for Peninsula……….

The Legion du Midi, Hanoverian Legion, and the Regt. de Preusse, were all in theater together. As were the Irish, so if you have those on the painting table, you could complete their brigade by painting the plastics as the Regt.de Preusse. The uniform was similar to that of the Irish, but green with red facings.

Oh, they were there alright. Then they were "lucky" enough to be pulled out for service in Russia.

James,

After you decide and get things painted up, you will need to post some pics.

My comments deal only with troops in Spain, my preference.

I believe the Warlord French you are using have long tailed coats, and the fusiliers has the bayonet scabbard attached to the bullet pouch belt – one cross belt. Italian line and Swiss would be the easiest to use, with long tailed coats, and the same bayonet arrangement for the fusiliers. All four Swiss regiments were in Spain, and many Italians. In fact, a ?division? of Italians were not far from the Vitoria battle toward the end, then transferred back to Prince Eugene for the end.

The Westphalians all had short-tailed coats.

I believe the Irish had long tailed coats, but I do not know if their fusiliers had a single belt. Do others on TMP know?

Swiss Neufchatel had short tailed coats, and all with short sword crossbelt. They DID serve in Spain at one time.

Legion du Midi has long tailed coats, but all with short sword belts.

I believe the Hanoverians were the same, allegedly light infantry.

Prusse had short tailed coats, and I recall all with short sword belts.

Hesse Darmstadt in Spain had short tailed coats, all with short sword and bayonet on separate belt.

I cannot seem to access the marvelous ?Histofig? site which shows so many of these units in very clear form.

Help!

Thanks for your help! I'm painting one battalion as Swiss at the moment, the second battalion I will submit to a popular vote starting from now!

Whale oil beef Oct…(as in October)

say it fast in an Irish accent!

I did not know Neufchatel got to sunny Spain. Always imagined them in Russia and the subsequent campaigns in Eastern Europe. They do look good though!

This site says it was in Spain 1810 – 12.

I don't recall where they were, and do not remember any clash with British forces – my requirement to do the units.

some great suggestions

I've got Spanish, Portuguese and British for my Peninsular armies so I'm flexible with French and allied units as long as they fought in Spain!

Maybe Neapolitan? Or Italian?

Also you could go with Garde of Paris…
