I have read the Western Front sections of his book. Well written in the style that you would expect from Hastings. The content leaves a lot to be desired though. There are some interesting anecdotes but his interpretations of people and events are too outdated. He has relied heavily on secondary sources, most of which are older. I can't speak for the rest of the book.
