On Saturday the Centurions* held another of their semi-monthly open-to-the-public games, this time extending the War of Jumbled Alliances** into its fifth year. There were ten players, and the action featured a large Spanish/Neapolitan army against a coalition of mostly German-speaking allies.

*The Centurions are loosely organized group of wargamers who put on public participation games at various local cons and shops, mainly at The Source in Roseville, Minnesota. The group provides terrain, and figures for anyone who wants to play, as well as a gamemaster knowledgeable about the chosen rules for the game. This provides opportunities for gamers who don't yet have enough figures of their own to put on a game to get some action on the table, or to try out rule sets or periods with which they are not yet familiar. **The War of Jumbled Alliances is a long-running series of games featuring historically organized 15mm armies, engaged in battles which ignore historical alliances. Basically, we slap together a scenario from whatever figures the players make available on a given game day, which occasionally make for some very strange coalitions (The Thirty-Third Coalition, the Pan-German Alliance, The League of White (French and Austrians!) and the ever-victorious Sarcastic Alliance). Over the course of several campaigns, the otherwise historical forces have increasingly fallen under the command of fictional generals (the Prussian upstart Freddie the Adequate; Duke Conan the Bavarian; the sanguine Russian general Tickemoff; and the unflappable Brit/Hanoverian Earl of Garfield) who have supplanted their historical counterparts.
