Can anyone say whether these two ranges could be used on the same bases. I'm redoing my 15mm Nine Years War (Tyrone's rebellion) English who are all Essex 16th C. figures with a couple of ECW types mixed in.

However, I really like the sound of some of the Matchlock ECW characters (rat catcher, witch finder etc).

Would they look right on the same bases?

Cheers,

Nic

IMHO yes, at least that is my findings using the ECW ranges from Matchlock. Cavalry no, MK horse not as large as Essex. They look okay mounted on spare Essex horses but the Matchlock riders come with cast on saddlry so Essex nags will need their saddles filed off.

One other thing Matchlock come sans pikes whilst Essex have theirs cast on.

I have one Tudor figure which has been identified as Matchlock. It's the next to last one here:

I don't need to use it so I've chosen not to. As you will know the other figures are Khurasan (except for the last one). I'd say Essex fall somewhere in between, though much closer to Khurasan than Matchlock.

I wouldn't go out of my way to introduce Matchlock figures into an Essex/Khurasan collection but where they have certain speciality or character figures I'd consider it. I recently got packs of Tudor and ECW civilians from Minifigs (not sure if they are Matchlock) for my projected English rebel army. The rest of this army will probably be Essex figures. My English Royal English army will be Khurasan, when available.

As with many ranges labelled 15mm size can vary with Matchlock. I have Matchlock 15mm ECW Scots Highlanders and they are great figures and a perfect fit with Essex, same base no problem.

I don't know if the other ECW figures are the same size.

Thanks lads, that sounds promising. As soon as I can (wont be for a little while yet) I'll order some characters and see what I can do with them.

Tim – Ace! I thought I had seen your comparison shots but can't remember them being so comprehensive. Cheers.
