This takes me back. I can vaguely remember a school trip when I lived in NZ in the 80's, to see the "square Kauri" – an almost perfectly square tree that was apparently a few hundred years old. The most amazing things though were the old gold miners' sites along the way: dammed creeks, hollowed-out logs to divert water, and the occasional carved-out culvert. A lovely part of the world. |
