Hi all,

As I understand it this version (with the enclosed fighting compartment, a la Armourfast) came into production in 1942 and 99 were built and sent to fight at Stalingrad in October 1942, where they were destroyed.

But did they deploy with the Panzer grey based camo, or the dunkelgelb based camo? I suspect that the second batch of 99 might have had a yellow based foundation, but these were not deployed at Stalingrad, which was cut off at the time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Both.

The first batch that fought at Stalingrad were in Pz Grey. The 2nd batch were in dark yellow (or were repainted when time allowed)

Edit additional information: the dark yellow basecoat was not approved for production until February, by which time Stalingrad had either already fallen or was close to it (I don't have the exact dates handy ATM). While dark yellow vehicles were turning up in 1942 in Russia, these were IIRC mostly with AG South in the Caucasus.

Damon.

There were only 12 of them sent to Stalingrad.

Not sure what color, but the photos look like a solid dark color. There were some dunkelgelb stug iiis at Stalingrad.

There's some discussion and the famous photo here:
