After seven years, I have decided to reboot my paleofiction and gaming blog, Prehistoric Pulp. Why now? There were a lot of reasons for the long silence, but I feel I am at the point in my life where I can once again devote time and energy to the project.

The blog is all about fiction featuring dinosaurs and prehistoric animals, as well as the men and woman who study them. I only write about works that either are targeted at adults or are children's books that can be enjoyed at an adult level (such as the Dinotopia books). It features news and reviews, as well as essays about the topic.

In terms of gaming, I publish reviews of rules systems. Already published is a review of "Saurian Safari" ( link ). I have plans to publish reviews of 2 Hour Wargames' "Adventures in the Lost Lands", Rattrap Productions' "Valley of the Thunder Lizard," and Wessex Games' "Tusk" in the near future, along with several RPG systems.

Check it out if you at all interested in the topic. And feel free to leave comments: prehistoricpulp.blogspot.com

That's a really neat blog. I'm looking forward to reading it, and going back over past posts. Think I'm going to discover some new reading material!
Having never read any dino fiction yet, what would you recommend as your favorite to start?

Fantastic you're back at it that's great. I like what you've posted in the past and look forward to reading future reviews.

Ouch. That's a tough one. I'm not sure what your literary preferences are, but dino fiction certainly falls into B-grade entertainment. I would start Jurassic Park even if you have seen the movie, because the novel is nothing like the film. The original The Lost World is a good short read. I have a fondness for dinosaur hunting stories, particularly de Camp's "Rivers of Time" and David Drake's "Time Safari" and "Tyrannosaur."

You know, I'm going to cheat and instead direct you to my overview the genre, "Raising the Dead: Bringing back extinct animals in fiction." It explains the various plot devices authors have used to bring dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals to life, with examples of each. Read over that and if there is anything that sparks your interest, give it a try. link

Read "A Sound of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury…and then watch out where and what you hunt. (-:

The rare "Tor" comic book series by Joe Kubert was good.

I second "Xenozoic Tales".

"The War That Time Forgot" series of stories in "Star Spangled War Stories".

Whoops…almost forgot. This is the pulp media board. So…

At the Earth's Core
Pellucidar
Tanar of Pellucidar
Tarzan at the Earth's Core

All by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
