There was an even older and outer of print board wargame from SPI "The Solomons Campaign" c.1973. That was why Avalanche Press had to pick another name. The SPI game was si-move written orders with really big hexes. Boargame Geek doesn't seem to have anything on it: link Gawrsh, just checked and I still own my copy. Cut, never been played in 40 years. You know how that goes. Avalon Hill published a Guadalcanal game in 1992 that looks like a good naval campaign driver: link The Axis & Allies Guadalcanal game probably wouldn't work well as a naval campaign driver, because of the very abstract mechanics. Fun two-player boardgame, though: link |

Listing of all boardgames involving guadalcanal here: link Seems like games involving the guadalcanal campaign come and go and if you dont get them when they first come out, you miss out for good (unless on ebay or some such venue). Not exactly sure what you are looking for. If maps, AP's Coral Sea has a map that could be used for a guadalcanal campaign (as does many of the boardgames in the above listing). If its just generating missions for each side, ODGW's The Solomon's Campaign does a good job of generating missions each month that the players then fight out using GQ3 (but you could use any miniatures rules system you want that includes air and sea). |

I don't think there is any one boardgame that does all of the Solomon's campaign from beginning to end. Even SOPAC only has scenarios for various points during the campaign, but not a full campaign. If you are looking for boardgames with maps that cover the area, you might want to look for Flattop (you can usually find copies on eBay). I think that the suggestion for ODGW's Solomon's Campaign is a good one. |

I agree about the Old Dominion GameWorks "The Solomons Campaign?" It's designed for General Quarters 3 but useable with any WW2 rules. It doesn't use a map, it uses decision points with a bit of random OB. Mostly accurate although Chuyo never had an air group. The ground game is die rolls influenced by supplies ran to the islands Oh yes, it's only the Guadalcanal campaign, not the entire Solomons chain. |

Try looking for a copy of Victory Games' "Pacific War". |

My sea area – Coral Sea, Slot, Southeast Pacific – desktop-published (but out of print) Sky, Sea, and *Jungle* is another. For night combat, you don't know what you are facing, other than big ships or small ships with cruisers able to fit in either box, until you illuminate your opponent or get hits on the ship. |

I managed to find a good copy of The Solomons Campaign at Noble Knight Games. Had an excellent game several weeks ago, even though I lost badly as the USN. Could easily see this game as a scenario generator for a set of naval rules that has an air and sub component. |

SOPAC is also available at Noble Knight games. Cheers, Gregory

Am playing another game of SPI's Solomons Campaign and doing much better as the USN this time. In fact, the game is very much up in the air, as the Japanese have not landed any troops on the island and the 1st Marine Division is intact, and Henderson Field has been a real thorn in the Japanese side. In my previous game I could not get Henderson built and it doomed the Allies. |

Thanks for your updates gregoryk. I've been playing Fighting Flattops online for a few months now, and digging it. I just captured Port Moresby in a Coral Sea game (but lost a fleet doing it), and I have Henderson Field on the ropes in a Guadalcanal game. MALINE YOU DIE! Lotsa fun. I may have rediscovered an opponent for face-to-face board wargaming, and you have me getting itchy to blow the dust off that SPI Solomons Campaign, and finally play it. |
