Hi, I have a couple of questions about Essex 15mm Medieval/Renaissance miniatures. Firstly, do the miniatures measure 15mm to eye level? Also, can anyone describe (or better, give a picture!) of the other variants in the MID73 Light/Medium Billman pack? I am considering using these as hobbits for Lord of the Rings, so, most importantly do they have any facial hair? :) Finally, is the MER117 English Billman with bill upright similar to the MER116 Billman? Does he have facial hair? Thanks! |

I believe they are 15mm, to the eye, and are a bit thicker and shorter, proportionately, than later releases. I can't say specifically for the figures you've inquired about, in terms of facial hair, but overall, I think they would make decent hobbits, especially when placed next to larger, thinner, figures on the tabletop. |

Thanks for the info, Mako11! If they are a bit thicker, then that would work out well with human-sized 25mm/28mm figs. |

A bit more Googling has found me a picture of MER117, and he has no facial hair!

Essex should work great for what you want. They are often called little gnomes by their detractors. I happen to be a big fan but will admit other lines will be better, there are many that are worse. You get an amazing consistency with the exception of older sculpts of the Mike's Models buyout era if still sold? |

Got the figures a couple of days ago. They are small compared to the GW hobbits, but I only have a few of the heroes. They are a bit smaller and thinner than my Mithril hobbits. The MID 73 pack is the least "hobbity", but the archers and billmen work nicely in clothing. I have enough of them now to make the GW figures look large, rather than the Essex miniatures looking small! |
