Pictured here are a before and after of a Toys R Us plastic whale I picked up at the swap meet for $3. USD In the after pictures, I have cut the whale to show its head rising from the sea and its tale slipping beneath the waves
thus two whales for the swap meet price of one. The water bases are made of Milliput. The rowboat is another broken toy purchased at the swap meet for 50 cents and modified for use with my Old Glory pirate rowers. The pirates were included to provide an idea of the size of the whale.[URL=http://s1082.photobucket.com/user/rgarretson/media/get-attachmentaspx-3_zps0b0d4181.jpeg.html]

The guy/gal who sculpted this toy did a great job. Once I got it cut and seated in the Milliput, it was really easy to paint. Thanks for checking it out and for the kind words. Richard |

Let me add this for the record. About six months ago I came across a picture of a group of pirates and a whale. I was so impressed with it that I put the pic on my desktop for future reference. When I found my whale at the swap meet and got it home, I realized that the whale in the picture and my swap meet whale were the same toy. Unfortunately, I had long since forgotten where I found the picture. Through the magic of these blogs I just discovered that my inspiration whale was done by gnomehome who had posted it on LAF. For me the inspiration I gain from seeing what others have done is really important and has been a huge benefit to me. I always hope that when I post something it causes someone out there to say to themselves "I could do that
Anyway, thank you gnomehome: you inspired me to find my whale. Richard |

The upside down question could remain one of the unsolved mysteries of 2013. On my computer they are right side up, but I actually had a friend show me them up side down on his laptop. Either way, Toys R Us made a neat whale with what I hope you'll agree has a lot of potential for use with 28s. I had a great time modifying it and painting i,t and I appreciate the kind words posted here most of which are right side up. Happy New Year. Richard |
